So what I did was I used all the context stuff and I said how the the author's ambition was to reflect that context.

Did anyone else do that?

Or is it just me?

(I did of course talk about Tyrell/Victor and Creature/Roy as well...just not sure whether I linked the context correctly...)

lol u failed. you dont talk about the author's ambition, you talk about Victor Frankenstein's and Tyrell's ambition to be creator and cause scientific progress. you're going to get such a bad mark and you should feel bad about that since the question was so obvious.

I didn't really say that. I just said that ambition was revealed through Frankenstein and Tyrell's characters and the authors were trying to caution us through their downfall the myopic ambition is bad. But I didn't even get to finish my essay so what do I know?

I talked about:
mans desire and ambition to overstep the acceptable human boundaries has led to the rise of hubris - tyrell/frankenstein
mans ambition for to overstep the boundaries of science has led to the degradation of the natural environment - absence of nature in bladerunner contrasted with the embracement of nature in frankenstein
mans blinding ambition to permeate the boundaries of man has led to the degradation of human empathy and morality - roy/creature

Please remember that the more important part of the question was how a comparative study increases the appreciation of both texts. The ambition part everyone would of had.

Yeah but, what was tripping me out was the fact if you take away the context...that's half the material gone...

I just felt I couldn't talk about Tyrell/Victor's ambition alone...I felt like it needed mention of context...so I linked it to ambition somehow...

I don't care...I'm right!!!

I talked about ambition and shiz but also started to bring in hubris through scientific progression leading to humanity's flawed nature...probably got like 2/20

A bit harsh. Even though I didn't do it, I can see how an authors ambition could have been inferred only in the sense that the module lends so much to 'context'.

I analysed the scientific ambition of creating life in the texts and how they express the authors values and how it is all tied in with context and shit like that.

Well my premade essay was about excessive ambition and humanity already. I left my ambition paragraphs pretty much the same and adapting to the question, while in my humanity ones talked about how it was a safeguard/preventative to ambition being excessive and spiraling out of control. Pretty sure that is what I did anyway. A band 4 would be nice thanks :)

The whole point of the paper is to test your critical thinking skills; as long as you addressed the question asked and didn't talk about flying squirrels then I'm pretty sure you'll be fine.

Personally I talked about Victor and Tyrell's ambitious desire to scientifically progress, etc. and related that back to the composers context.

How did people write a decent length essay without even mentioning context?!

I don't get that...

You just speak about Victor and Tyrell and their ambitions and link it to 2 themes. I did: humanity's rejection of the natural world in favour for the unnatural pursuit to prolong life with technology and science replacing the role of religion.

I found the question decent. It fitted with my pre-prepared essay pretty well.

In the essay, I talked about how people's ambitious use of use and technology have resulted in a destruction of nature and religion and a loss of humanity.

I talked about the characters
One paragraph was how Tyrell and Victor's ambition for knowledge and money led for them to advance technology and create new life and play God like that
And the other one was the ambition of the monster and Roy to belong or live longer and it's what led them to evolve or w/e. And that through this they question whether humanity is defined by genetics or by behaviour. Of course there was more but meh.. IM DONE WITH ENGLISH. IDC!
