I've heard differently from the ey and kpmg cadets I know who finish much earlier than that (also probably the most chilled people I've met). I doubt they make vacationers work like dogs - you usually finish earlier if you're an intern (however, many choose to stay back). A friend of mine in deloitte though told me they are treated 'badly' in a the sense that they get all the shitty mindnumb work to do - not in terms of hours (consequently, one transferred over to deloitte consulting - seems to be loving it). Generally, its not as bad as 11, you only see those times in IB.

Also, given that you're in a tech/IT degree - have you considered at deloitte and PwC technology side? Auditing might be a bit too dull for you.
I haven't signed up yet, just reading up,...

Thanks for the info

hey guys, given an offer for both PWC and EY, which one would you take and why?
Assuming it's for the same service line, I'd take the offer which fits me best. Which company did you like more? Which company can best provide you with opportunities aligned to your career goals?

I believe they're choosing 4 for audit, and 12 in total or something.
Looking at how many interview slots they had for audit... hahahah :|

I think with auditing its more about which client you get to work on than the actual work you do. Work will essentially be similar across all clients at cadet level, sometimes it gets very dull and is made worse if you are working for a shit client and in a shit team. But if you end up in a good team and on a decent client you will end up enjoying the work and tasks. Also if you are choosing between auditing and other divisions, one thing to note is that in auditing you won't necessarily work with the same people for more than 4 weeks at a time so you are constantly meeting new people (at big 4, I am not sure about mid tiers).

But hey if you get lucky and get to know a ED or partner well, you could end up doing some fun stuff (e.g. a grad I know is working on an ipo atm because him and an E.D went to an event together).

Don't think too much into which of the big 4 if its the same division (unless its Delloite assurance!), whichever firm feels right for you at the moment just go for that.

I'd just caveat that on some of the larger audit jobs in say financial services, they can potentially take most if not all of your year (although it's generally not recommended for career/technical development)- this does mean you'll work with a certain group of people quite a lot during the year.

How'd it go?
It went alright, I interviewed for private clients (European desk). It went overtime because I was just talking to the partner about life. Not sure if I'll get it. Doesn't matter though.

See everyone at the BDO meet and great tomorrow! I might be 5-10 mins late though. I finish work at 5:15pm.

I was late back to work, hahaha. Interview went for an hour and twenty minutes - not always a good thing considering he was worried for me since i only just started at HC.

Let's just see how it goes.

I'll see everyone tonight :)

Yeah, my allotted time was 2:00-2:40, but I was just chatting to him about what I want to do with my career and he was giving me insight into his division and how it could benefit me. He just wanted me to be aware of the broadness and limited depth of PC's and but depth of understanding I will get if I stay in insolvency (since it's a specialised division).

He likened PC's to the general practitioners of the accounting world - it makes me think: I really didn't do much research when coming into accounting. I just went in because it's easy to get a job LOL

I have yet to find where I wanna be.

Don't worry guys, many good interviews are within the allocated time, going overtime isn't a bad thing, but you don't have to force it out during the interview, if you can show them that you're a good candidate within the allocated time then all the better. Just use it as a guide, it's not a strict time to finish earlier or later.

Btw if anyone is going to BDO meet & greet today if you want can you PM the division you're going for, just developing a few statistics and who I know is going, thanks.

That was fun. If anyone felt bad about something they did at the event just remember I almost collapsed from dehydration lol
