I wasn't aware there was a loan fee. Still, it's not that much extra in the scheme of things.

I don't know, I've never really paid much attention to my surmounting debt. I'm not rich by any means, but having deferred all my payments I just kind of feel like it's so far off in the future that I can't take it seriously at the moment.

Well a 25% loan fee is quite a bit as far as I'm aware. In dollar amounts, it's probably not a whole lot, but I've never come across something that high in percentage terms.

Heh, same (although it's not quite big yet). One of the big reasons why I don't care about it right now is that nothing I do now can affect it in a positive way. So there's no real reason to think about it.

It's better than accruing interest haha.

I guess I am slightly concerned. Especially since I've messed around with transfers so much that I'm finishing undergraduate studies two years later then what I should have. But even then, if I stick to the study plan I have set out for this degree (and possibly honours), I've calculated I'd be about 64K in debt. It's probably more than most people but I don't think its unmanageable.

I'd cry. I think I'll only be like 34k?

Hi Amleops. How did you "mess around with transfers so much" ? I remember you said you transferred from another university to USyd, and that you transferred from a combined degree to BSc (Adv). But don't the transfers make you graduate one semester/year later than normal? Why is it 2 years? :jawdrop:

I could finish up a year earlier than I want to, but if I stay an extra year I can complete pretty much every senior unit the Mathematics department offers. May end up changing my mind about that but that's the plan at the moment haha.

Normally with my degree you'd be in university for 3 years (not including honours), I am taking 5 years.

Isn't there a limit on how many units you can take?

I might do that then.
Cool :). You'll probably be in most if not all of my classes for the next few years then haha.

Why not do Honours or a coursework Masters instead then? :speechless:
USYD don't offer a coursework Masters degree for Mathematics, but I do want to do Honours if I can, so that adds another year on haha. Just want to do as many undergraduate units as I can and learn as much as possible before I decide on what to specialise in.

Actually I'm doing maths too. :p
The units I'm doing this semester make me wonder if I can make it to Honours
Probably at least not at USyd, where a 75% average for normal units or 65% for advanced units is required.
For Honours I'll see if I can transfer to UNSW, where a 70% average is required (which is more achievable). UNSW is closer to where I live anyway :p

Next sem I got MATH2961, MATH2962, MATH2969.

Not sure what else yet. Want to do as many maths subjects as I can to boost my WAM lol.

Good luck with getting into Honours :). You're finishing this year then?

Yep that's what I'll be doing too, along with STAT2911. :)

Thanks!

I'm expecting to finish next semester, but I'm basically done with my maths major IF I manage to pass all my units of study this semester (I did 2 senior maths units of study last semester and I'm doing 3 this semester. Depending on what grades I get this semester I might do another 1 to 3 senior maths units next semester.) :D

I wanted to do as many units as possible before choosing a specialisation (like what you're planning to do), so I'm doing both pure and applied units this semester, which is probably the reason why I'm suffering so badly now.

Have considered it, not sure how much of a fan of stats I am though.
I've heard quite a few people say that actually haha. I enjoy statistics myself so I'll probably be doing one stat unit each semester to count towards a second major.

How about MATH3066? It would serve as an introduction to some of the pure mathematics concepts you would learn later on (MATH3962 I think), plus it's a normal level unit which you can use as a WAM booster. I planned to do it the year after next before I did MATH3962.

Thanks!

Any idea what you want to specialise in yet?
