You know what I would find funny? Taking all the ladies and gents dressed up and getting horses to jump on their back and whip them.

That day will be the day of the revenge of the planet of the horses.

EDIT:

I'd bring Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford's) unicorn into the equation, just so they can bleed as they get hit.

Except when an athelete gets injured we don't go "naw mate you're too expensive for us to keep so bullet in the head for you."
Selfishness is part of human nature

I've heard of dog racing, and most of the people that do it, do it for the $$$, not cause they love the dog.

Inb4 they put them down as it costs them less and they lost a lot of money in betting hence they just put them down as its cheaper to do.

LOL! you have no idea how much it costs to train a race horse do you???

Trust me, letting a racing horse go early because of illness or infirmity is like losing a business if you do that shit for a living... (not for the jockeys and trainers, obviously... but for the owner of that horse, it's pretty devastating to their bottom line... considering how much money they poured into getting the horse to be in that condition...)

Next animal rights activist are going to go bat shit crazy about the notions that dogs are used for working around farms (even though they are actually bred for that and it comes as second nature where it's instinctive), with the police, fire brigade, etc... shit happens, glue needs to be made somehow...

Haha there's arguments and debates left right and centre over animal rights. Some are necessary but some are unnecessary.

melbourne cup is a pretty lame and overhyped event every year tbh
You're just jelly you didn't get the day off today...

but yeah, it's pretty shit... went once, just a lame excuse to get drunk with overpriced drinks and stare at women... I can do that any day of the week... Contrary to popular belief, people don't seem to go their for the horses...

usually if ANY horse gets a broken leg, they'll most likely get put down because it's pretty hard to fix/treat them or they'll be in pain for the rest of their life

if any of you butthurting over this aren't vegan then you should probably stfu right now
At least in bullfighting you eat the bull.

Racing horse gets injured and they get a bullet in the head and off to the glue factory. I still don't get why a day of gambling is such a big event. who the fuck honestly cares about horse racing, just an excuse for people to get hammered and spend money on hats.

When a K9 gets injured in the line of duty, nobody puts a bullet in its head. That's the difference. We accept animals being part of many sectors of the economy, putting a bullet into a horse because "oh well its got a stiff leg" is a bit unnecessary (yes yes bottom line blah blah blah).

This.
Idc about animals if people are eating them, that's needed for survival, but pointlessly exerting them for entertainment and killing them is fucked up.

The consumption of animals, certainly on the scale we currently do, is not needed for our survival, and those used for food live much worse lives than the average racehorse.

One horse died and people are having an hysterical knee-jerk reaction to it. Given the amount of actual animal suffering that occurs in the world that isn't this, it just goes to show how stupid and weak minded people getting upset over this are.
