20,000 applications this year for the HSC out of 70,000 odd students.

Everything from psychosis that disappears after the HSC to Ebola.

Worst offenders are Upper North Shore Private Schools and Western Suburb Schools.

When you get to University, look to the person on your left then on your right. One of them will be EAS.

Yeah but most have legitimate reasons such as uac's list disadvantaged schools and tragic personal reasons. At the end of the day, it's about getting into the course.

Probably because they're on the UAC disadvantaged list...

Depends on the course I'd think?
I'm sure some courses would have more applicants than others, regardless,
20k/70k does not equal 50% which is your supposed chance of finding someone EAS ACCORDING TO HER MATH. Maybe if she included the amount of succesful applicants and the amount of offers recieved we'd have a better clue...

I think it was implied that you (the person in the center), didn't apply for EAS. That still isn't how stats works, but can kind of see what they were getting at.

Also not all 70k people go to university. Probably most of the 20k which rort the system or whatever do end up going to uni. I dunno, I guess the math kind of works then.

THOUSANDS of year 12 students are claiming bonus points on hardship or disadvantage grounds to gain entry to their preferred UNIVERSITY COURSE, with numbers doubling in the past three years.

The Educational Access Schemes (EAS) — which allow students to top up their score and ENTERa course they would have missed out on — have become an industry as school-leavers seek to qualify under any of six major categories of disadvantage.

The number APPLYING FOR bonus points to enter tertiary institutions has been growing for several years. In 2011 data from the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) showed that 10,813 applied under the program. Now more than 20,000 apply annually.

Students can receive up to a potential 10 extra points that can get them over the line and into a chosen course if they can prove disadvantage such as illness, financial hardship or English-speaking difficulties. The special provisions — along with a separate scheme allowing year 12 students with special talents such as leadership or other achievements aside from results to gain entry to university while still at school — are changing the face of tertiary institutions.

Got a friend who is a GP. Would do consults on Year 11/12 students for a range of conditions which made them debilitated then the visits stop after the HSC.

Scam.

20,000, next year 30,000, the year after 50,000 makes the ATAR irrelevant for honest people.

1) Stop being so butthurt.

2) Don't tell other people to do applied maths when there is people here who you couldn't even hold a candle to.
