20 days to go for prelims and I haven't been doing anything for physics and chem, am I cooked...? (1 Viewer)

Year 11 currently, doing Maths Advanced, Maths Extension 1, English Advanced English Extension 1, Physics, Chemistry, Software Engineering(horrible course btw publisher still haven't released 2/3rds of the textbook), Economics.

While most other subjects I'm alright with(have been listening in class) and will get ~80-85% without much effort into studying, I haven't been doing anything for chem and physics(doing everything but the work and/or listening in class). I am literally 4 modules behind for both of them as I have been doing nothing in the classes. We started doing some past papers and I realised that I am absolutely cooked as I left every single page blank for each past paper besides some basic formula work. Is 20 days too late to learn 8 modules all together? I was thinking just skimming over the content and spamming an endless amount of past papers, basically learning the questions and how to solve them rather than the content itself? Also, school doing independent paper for prelims(which is apparently more difficult than others?).

Any advice from fellow procrastinators? I can't be the only one hoping to cram 3 terms of content in 2 weeks, right...?

You're pretty cooked
I was a big procrastinator in hs but I've never procrastinated 2 entire subjects 💀
Do the best you can, learn from this and don't repeat it in year 12

Also, don't rote learn the answers to questions, these aren't humanities subjects; understand the concepts used in the questions and you'll be saving a lot more time

They were both theory so didn't need to learn much for that and for the in class quizzes(tests) I learnt just enough to do well(memorized the formulae and the type of questions that will be asked without any real understanding).

ok im sorry i realised how i came off a bit extreme. i reckon you will be okay as long as you go over the broader concepts. atp you dont have time to focus on everythign in a detailed manner and depending on how hard your prelims will be i would focus on the more high yield topics first. talk to your teacher/other students about what they think are the topics that will be worth more marks on an exam and focus on those.

as for your marks i hope youre not expecting a 100 but work hard and you'll do fine

im just surprised that you learned NOTHING tho. like surely you know some of the theory right. surely youre not learning everything from scratch

youre kinda screwed. once you finish prelims you should probably catch up in holidays bcuz a lot of the physics content in year 11 is kinda relavent to some modules in year 12.

yup same goes for chem imo. its not the actual content itself that is assessable tho its just that it forms the foundation for what you will learn in 12

module 1, 2 —> module 5
module 4, 5 —> module 6
module 3 (kinda) —> module 8

Not really.. you can get away with not knowing much of yr11 physics for yr 12 physics
yeah youre right. but tbh not knowing y11 content and the types of q's you will get to a decent extent before starting y12 is not it. yes its not assessable but they don't teach y11 for no reason, its to prep in terms of skills for y12.

ultimately my advice is grind for the text, cover main topics and do tons of practice questions and then over the holidays recap the bits of phys and chem that are relevant to y12. ask someone for that info idk

I've completely crammed two modules of Chemistry in 3 days and scored >90% in my assessment before (but allegedly I have a very above-average memory retention, if that matters). 20 days is plenty of time since you're cramming, not committing it to your long-term, so I think you can definitely do it and do decently! As long as you try, anything is possible ^^ It's not like you can afford to not study for them anyways, so just get into it!

saying you can cram and still get 90+ is giving ppl the wrong idea. that might be achievable for you could bc you somewhat did work in class, you're exceptionally smart or youre tests were relatively easy or whatever.

my school's term 1 and 2 chem tests only cover 1 mod's worth per test (probs less bc we skip the content that the teachers think is "too easy") and we have less than 20 band 6s out of almost 100 ppl. almost all of the kids that band 6 go to chem tutoring that accelerates them so they already know the content beforehand. dont even ask about physics 💀

also @MikeTyson3333 i hope youre not on here estimating your mark, keep grinding bro you got this. maybe you will get 90+ depending on the difficulty of the test and the revision you do.

Now that you mention it, it was probably also part ADHD hyperfocus that I managed to get so high with 0 prior knowledge (no tutoring, no classwork, 0 clues) haha ;; my mistake!

But my point is just that I definitely don't see why the average person can't do decently with 20 days to go! Harsh time management and focusing on key areas is the key here (it's what I did), I'm sure they can hone themselves in if they try! 90% is definitely a bit ambitious, but it's still possible to do decently regardless (I don't imagine OP would be aiming for 90% if they're aware that they know 0 chemistry or physics, anyways)! Weekends are a free ~10 hours of studying per day (accounting for breaks and sleep time here), which should give a decent boost.

I'm no physics student, so OP is on their own in that regard, but I can definitely say chemistry isn't too bad to cram if you're efficient and actually focusing when you study
