YES MACRO TECHNIQUES ALL THE WAY!! This is what i always use for evidence, its super flexible. Both in my essays and in creatives i will always choose a macro technique, its a lot more straightforward to talk about, and it helps your analysis feel much more "rounded"...in the sense that its connecting to the entire text. Its easier to talk about it as a whole, like, as a whole piece for lack of any better term.

When looking at a unseen text i always look for macro first. Like how long the sentences are, weather they are super long and flowy or if theyre quick, snappy and straight to the point. How its sectioned, or how its structured, or if theres any consistencies in the metaphors they use...
ie, if a text is criticising, lets say industrialisation...they may imbue a whole lot of references to things like smoke, or soot, or metal, Plasticine...often they may physically decribe something in a way thats super hyper-specifc to this theme, even if its an object or thing you wouldnt at all associate it with. Ie, lets say a pair of black boots. An author COULD say they are "midnight black", or just "black", but if they say - for instance - "tar-coloured" boots that IMMEDIATELY gives me at least a really icky sensation. You wouldnt ever associate those two together, and it makes for a really powerful image.

Of course, only use evidence like this if its relevant to the question but what im saying is...look for things which SOUND really unique too, because theres probably a reason why. Go with your gut! A text is supposed to be read after all :p
MACRO 😍
and yes i agree - the markers can see your simile (well actually they cant bc its marked seperate anyway) but they dont need u to point it out you know..
macro techniques r the way to go for the justification, ESPECIALLY bc youre giving that marker a well rounded and cohesive analysis of ur piece esp bc theyre not even reading it

guys is 1100 words in 52 minutes reasonable or am I a really slow writer? I just timed myself doing a T.S. Eliot essay
Better than what i can do! I think a good aim for most essays is about a minimum of 800 words, so if you spend 45 minutes on your essay and get in 800 words, that's solid!

Its far better than what i can do. I can do approx. 1 (one) syllable in 300 years.

bear in mind, this was ONLY writing, absolutely no thinking, I was copying an essay I had written last week.
Ohhh i see! In that case then on the day, do keep in mind its likely you may have to adapt your prepared essay so that may take an extra while - so with that in mind, do the best you can! But so long as you have that pre prepared essay in mind, it'll be much easier to write with a bit more confidence...hence, faster. Good luck! 1100 in 50 minutes is lightnight speed for me XD

I haven't got a prepared essay  - I haven't prepared one because all of my teachers said not to. This has stressed me out a bunch too because everyone on here are using prepared essay, whereas everyone I've spoken to says no. (Note: I go to a rural catholic school)
