does anyone know how to tell if an artwork is modern or postmodern?? :spzz:
postmodern is basically 1950s--present. think of what is in the artwork. does it use humour, appropriation (taking an older artwork and recontextualising it), does it break the boundaries of traditional art? postmodern art encompasses unconventional and new experimental ways of art.

in a similar sense, modern art was also experimental for its time. it seems to have followed post-industrial society--early 1950s, where movements like surrealism, abstraction and existentialism were the key ideas. this was a reaction to horrific world events like WWI, WWII, spanish flu, the great depression, industrial society, all of which subject them to a lot of changes in how they expressed art. so, art that has a really gritty and surreal way of portraying the world (in addition to being from that era) is 'modern'.

basically, look at the dates, look at how it is expressed, look at the choice of medium

oh lol im in the same boat for art. dont bother memorising an entire essay, memorise your analysis of your artworks in your body paragraphs. look for what kind of content area you're going to answer (if its conceptual/practice/frames), and do it paragraph by paragraph so u remember. also the exam is like at 1:55pm iirc so you have a little more than 5 hours

year possibly? post ww2 is post modern while 1920s was modernism
im thinking from english but modernism is having lots of meaning, going all out, yay we won the War, lets spend a lot (great gatsby vibes)
Post modern is very nihlistic, dont have any meaning, why are we even alive

thank you so much!!!! bruh here me doing everything 4 days before lmao

how did u prepare for the essays, did u just focus on 2 topics?
sorry for late reply have been grinding maths papers (and failing)
yeahhhh join the <1 wk before crew

for essays, i think it's pretty much the same kind of content you'd need to apply in short answers, just with stronger links/logic between parts and an overall 'thesis' kinda thing. i technically was able to write essays on all 4 topics but had 2 that i was strongest with, so i could pick my stronger topic when they gave the choice in the actual exam. i think mine were finance and operations if i recall correctly. had general case studies/stats that could apply to all topics as well as a few specific ones for each individual topic.

For those who did english advanced, did you do integrated paragraphs or separate paragraphs for mod a? I'm wondering because for drama I have 2 texts per section and I might do something similar to Mod A though the two texts aren't quite as similar as the ones in mod A. Can't seem to find anyone else that does drama around here so english advanced will suffice
integrated
