Worried about my HSC and ATAR, in regards to subject, scaling and poor study habits (1 Viewer)

Hey everyone, I'm at the end of year 10. I kind of fooled around in year 10 English (despise the subject) and forced to do English Standard (NSW). The subjects I'm doing are:
Math Adv
English Standard (ES)
Business Studies (BS)
Software Engineering (SE)
Chemistry
Investigating Science (IS)

I'm confident in math adv, BS and SE and to a lesser extent Chemistry. It's English that's throwing me off, particularly English Standard as it's the one subject I'm doing miserably in. I plan to do tutoring in year 11 to prevent me from failing ES and doing well in it. I've been dooming myself these past few weeks into thinking I won't get a high ATAR or HSC results, especially due to ES. I have piss poor study habits and feel like I'll somehow screw myself into failing so I desperately need to work on that too. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated :)

On an alternate note, does any extra-curricular activities help with Uni applications or do they solely only care about ATAR. I currently do nothing so I'm worried. And do extra-curricular activities help with any Early Entry Schemes? I'd like to do something in Business, Law, Medicine or Economics. If I don't get a high enough ATAR, what are some alternate pathways or opportunities that can help me into the degree/course I desire

build your skills in y11 — creative, analytical, etc. (or just in general get good foundations for all your subjects)
study your texts ahead of time (i mean you better at least do this for y12), considering the rubric for that module as a conceptual ‘lens’ to apply to the text
oh also if you’re not going to do the work the teacher assigns you in class do meaningful work instead of playing chess my friend found this out the hard way 💀

english standard sucks (maybe i’m biased) but it won’t pull you down that badly

extracurrics will help for early entry schemes but compared to the US, academics hold wayy higher weigting. i think for alternate pathways u can transfer internally if your WAM is high enough?? idk never researched this fully

Hi, thank you for the reply!
I appreciate the advice for English. I'm forced to do English Standard even if I'd rather do English Advanced. I do go to a fairly shit school, which makes Eng Standard sting even more. I also feel weirdly targeted for the whole chess scenario but fair enough lmao!

What subjects did you do? And if you're in university. which course? If you're not in university, which subject/job do you do? I'm mostly open to anything.
What study habits did you have? Because mine is virtually non-existent..

Yes, extra-curricular activities will aid you. You can transfer into the degree you want through other means if your ATAR is not good enough... You can apply for scholarships and gateway schemes.

Ahh someone in the same boat as me but probably smarter lmao! How would transferig work? I've read many articles and watched countless videos but still don't quite understand how it works.

What gateway schemes or scholarships would apply... as I don't necessarily meet any of the criteria of any of em?

I believe if you are doing well in a course with similar subjects to your desired course you may be able to transfer into it.... But don't hold me to that! You're best off asking someone who actually goes to uni.

As for scholarships and such... Hm, I'm not sure! I can send you a document with a list of scholarships you may want to look through...? I don't know how helpful it would be, but worth a shot.

Oh my god yes that would be greatly appreciated! I'm so lost for these next two years and life onwards so any help would be amazing :)
