Nah I'm not saying NESA is right for doing this, I'm saying NESA should've just held the exams for them at the same time or at least 2 hours in to the 3 hour exam
yeah that might be possible for some of them, but for others that have a bigger time difference like 12 hours for example, it would as you said be better to have an alternative assessment

You can’t change the past, but you can shape the future. The only thing that matters now is what you do in the present every bit of effort you put in today brings you closer to the results you want tomorrow. Move forward with purpose.

NESA documents mention about making the future exams more conceptual . This exam is an example. The questions are not too hard. But they require a good knowledge of the concepts.
I think the main problem here is the lack of the necessary resources for the students. The level of the questions in the existing textbooks are well below this exam.
For example probability question 19 would be solved easily by using Law of total Probability. But it is not mentioned in the syllabus and there is no example even in Cambridge textbook.
They are forcing the students to go to tutors.

not really related, but they had a question using a very similar concept in the 2021 exam! it was the question about IQ. 19 would have rlly stumped me if I hadn't taught myself that question :blink2:

Yeah all my standard friends said it was super hard
I did see this in the Telegraph

Former NESA exam writer and Head of Mathematics at top girls’ school Ascham Janet Hunter confirmed that each paper featured higher-order questions more typical of the next level up, with some candidates “in tears” after the tests.
“Usually Standard questions are couched in practical situations rather than using calculus vocabulary,” she said.
“Advanced ... was on the hard side and long overall.
“Questions like 25, 27 and 28 were more like Extension 1 or 2 in style where they really had to think and interpret and connect parts.”
omg that was literally how i felt. i lowkey was like theres no way this is adv. y am i struggling as bad as ext 1 omll

a facebook site was asked by nesa to take down papers:

”I have been asked to remove all copies of papers and posts that significantly reference the papers from here by NESA due to students in other time zones yet to sit the papers”

bit late now isn’t it? it’s all over tiktok, youtube, other facebook sites, discord servers - and that’s only the ones i know about

even newspaper websites are reproducing questions from today’s papers, eg., https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/e...s/news-story/9175594f3a144b394e39188760fc6533

so what do nesa want to do, shut down the whole internet?

someone needs to tell nesa the universe is bigger than them, just in case they haven’t noticed
I would struggle to believe it was really NESA who asked to take it down

According to this
there is evidence to suggest there are procedures in place to address the different time zones. I vaguely also recall that students cannot leave an exam early until after a certain time.

According to this
the schools outside of NSW that are licensed to administer the HSC are within 3 hour time zones so even if they did start based on local time, they basically overlap with the NSW times

Also I'm not sure if anyone felt the same, but the paper actually seemed pretty simple at first glance during reading time

You only realised how hard the questions were while doing them
THIS
in reading time i was like oh this is easy and saw bearing question in the last half and was so chill
then i spend so much time on the difficult questions and had barely any for the last half and saw bearings and started killing myself so chucked whatever i could to muster a mark for the last few

i think i got 80 ish hopefully tho

Yeahhhh I think it was also a nasty trick that they made the last few questions pretty easy compared to the earlier part of the second half. By the time we got there, we had already been through so much and probably didn't have enough time to approach those last questions as well as we otherwise could've

that was mansw's facebook page and that quote i made was of the secretary of mansw so i am convinced it was from nesa.

btw they were allowed to put them all back up today.

If you look at the answers provided by Tywebb from different tutoring places, they all use the Law of total probability. It is the easiest way.

idk what that law of total prob thing is but this is mainly how we were taught to approach the q?

huh what is this, I just used the conditional probability formula on the reference sheet
yead you did
but you had to get the probability of everything first
like the overall probability of a win was only calculated when you consider selected then win
and then over 0.5
