    Trig identity

Which of the following is an expression for sin8x/sinx a)cos4xcos2xcosx b)2cos4xcos2xcosx c)4cos4xcos2xcosx d)8cos4xcos2xcosx I have no idea how to deal with the sin8x Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated Update: Found a cheap method to find the answer, but I want to know what to do...

    Ext 2 maths

I disagree with this. I believe it depends entirely on your school; the difficulty level of your tests. Ultimately, your rank amongst your year would be the most important contributor to whether you are capable or not.

    Curve sketching

Hello guys, What is the oblique asymptote for the function f(x) = x^2/(2x+3) By dividing both the numerator and denominator by x, I got x/2, which translates into the oblique line 2y = x However, graphing calculators prove otherwise, as the line does not pass through the origin. Is there...

    Bit over word count

No, they don't have any word counting systems, nor manually count each word. However, they would probably take into account the quantity of pages, which is obviously an estimation of your word count.

    polynomial question

One more thing, when the polynomial P(x) is divided by x^2-1 the remainder is 3x-1. What is the remainder when P(x) is divided by x-1? I know that R(1) = 2, which is the answer, but what could be a nice proof?

    polynomial question

    Ahh, just simple intuition. Thanks!

YES! can you please explain to me how you got that?

    polynomial question

P(x) is a monic polynomial of the fourth degree. When P(x) is divided by x+1 and x-2 the remainders are 5 and -4 respectively. Given that P(x) is an even function ie. one where P(x)=P(-x) a. Express it in the form p0+p1x^1+p2x^2+p3x^3+p4x^4 Well what I instantly thought was equating both by...

Subjects actually helping in real life

Apparently gen maths because my teacher says they are constantly changing the syllabus so it can be more relevant to the real world.

For those who get 14/15 for creative writing, please advise.

Here are some tips that my teacher gave us. She was a HSC marker at one point and made some observations: *Try not to do the cliched "teenager in highschool" because apparently it's way overused. *Circular structures are good - Starting and ending on the same scene/note. *Flashbacks are good to...

Most effective format for typing notes

Greetings, What's your opinion on the best possible format for typing notes? I am assuming word document is certainly at the top. If so, how do you write yours? for example, dot points, chunks or a constant flow of info? I thought power point could also be interesting, for example putting...

    Need clarity on discriminant

Let me get this clear If I get an equation, factored somewhere along the line of 2(m-2)x^2+... When using discriminant or any other formulas in general, do you take into account the inside term, or the entire part? Thinking about it, technically, the 'a' in ax^2 should include the entire...

is understanding year 12 ext 1 math (2&3u) book good?

Year 12 understanding maths doesn't really help you understand maths. The examples they give are the most generic and basic ones you will encounter, acting only as a basic view of the topic.

    Engineering dilemma

Here's the situation.. From the half yearly exam, I was ranked 2nd out of around 30 kids. My cohort is really weak and my teacher is irresponsible, being away for over two weeks. My only competition is another person, who is away for over half of the time. I am the only 3U student amongst a...

    Integral roots

If a polynomial has 'integral roots', what condition does this indicate? Apparently integral roots means that the roots are integers, but how does this affect the question?

Lol sorry, my bad, I meant 99% don't.

need a recommendation for a textbook.

Ruse kids don't do 2u. Cambridge is the way to go. For some odd reason, Cambridge 2U has chapter review exercises for each topic. As for worked solutions, only Terry Lee provides them however they don't do 2U

Maths and unable to score full marks. How can I stop this?

What my friend did was to do the questions really slowly. We were fortunate to have a relatively easy exam, and doing so minimised the risk of losing marks due to mistakes. I rushed through my exam however, and had over 30 minutes left. Still did quite well but there were a few marks that I...
