Was/Is Oil Supply the reason for the Iraqi War/Occupation?

I can think of several reasons why the US invaded Iraq. - oil - spread democracy - rid Iraq of a horrific dictator, hence helping Iraqis (esp Kurds and Shi'ites) - put pressure on Iran and Syria (since Iraq is adjacent to both countries, etc) - neutralise an enemy of Israel and financier of...

    Finals!

Yes QMA gets scaled, depending on how well the students do. Sem 1 last year I failed QMA and I tried to get my exam paper remarked. I was told my raw mark and it was around 7 marks lower.

Ive been to various suburbs throughout the Bennelong electorate. I dont agree that the area is mostly working class. Suburbs such as Epping, Ryde, Marsfield and Gladesville are farely affluent.

2007 Federal Election - Coalition or Labor/Howard or Rudd?

Im not trying to defend the actions of Islamic extremists (terrorists). There were a few other terrorist acts against American targets prior to 9/11. A couple major ones are the bombing of the USS cole in 2000 and the bombing of 2 American embassies in Africa in 1998. America's foreign...

2007 Federal Election - Coalition or Labor/Howard or Rudd?

I believe national security would be better under Labor. Howard's foreign policy (esp Iraq) has increased the threat to this country. The American Presidential candidate Barak Obama spoke about security at a democratic forum a couple of days ago. He said Bush's war in Iraq has made America...

Labor and its views on IR

Ever since the Accord began in the early 1980s, the unions have been behaving themselves. There has been very little industrial action and wage increases have been moderate and mostly linked to productivity growth (via enterprise bargaining). I agree inflation needs to be under control. After...

Labor and its views on IR

Strikes by employees basically tells the employer that they arent happy with conditions. A strike is an overt action and the employees might have already been doing covert industrial action such as absenteeism, sabotage, resigning, etc. I think strikes should be done as a last resort like if...

Labor and its views on IR

Howard also says he believes the unions have a place in society but what would this place be? You support legislation that significantly increases the regulation of unions. Its extremely difficult for them to enter workplaces and they face huge fines for minor infringments. Also, if all people...

Tony Blair's reign has come to an end

It seemed during his first few years he did great things for the UK. He got the balance right between a strong economy and a decent social safety net. But his relationship with Bush and his strong support for the war in Iraq has tainted the positives of his leadership. I wonder what he's gona...

    French Presidential Election 2007

From an economic perspective France is going to benefit substantially with him as President. That country is in desperate need of reform. Their unemployment rate is over 10% However, from a social perspective it doesnt look good. Sarkozy is very unpopular with the immigrants. Royal is a more...

2007 Federal Election - Coalition or Labor/Howard or Rudd?

I heard a bit about that. To be honnest it sounds quite frightening. However, Labor's IR policy today is going to be very different to the one it has on election day. Changes will be made regarding individual contracts, etc. People aren't restricted to 38 hours. They are free to work more...

2007 Federal Election - Coalition or Labor/Howard or Rudd?

Pre-WorkChoices AWAs provided plenty of flexibility. Penalty rates, overtime, public holidays, etc could be traded away in exchange for a higher hourly rate. When I was on an AWA I a year ago my wage on a monday afternoon was the same as it was on a sunday night or a public holiday. Why is...
