Simple question that needs an answer

Don't scales on Earth account for gravity? So then to figure out the mass of an object reading 40kg on an earth scale you would have to do F=mg i.e. 40=9.8m Therefore m=40/9.8 and since the mass remains the same, the mass is around 4 hmmm...ive obviously made some mistake, but where?

    Factors influencing rate of corrosion

I'm doing an experiment like this, and i have boiled some distilled water, and put it in a stoppered test tube for a control so i can say for sure that the rust is actually coming from the nail thats corroding. i got that from a book, but why did i have to boil the water? Anyone know?

    Possible Trial Questions

yep i had the same one as you s2ophie. I don't know which one's it was tho... i know my teacher cut and pasted as well. i had every question you listed cept the cell one.

    Motor Effect

A current carrying wire in a magnetic field will experience a force. That's it really, like in excel.

    Independent trials 2003

Our school put two different papers together. I think they had to in case someone managed to get one of the papers. But it was an independent paper

    Yr Ten Is Are Bludge!

Wow, thats a little obsessive, I'd change schools. Hehe, we only did english maths and science, and we had no yearlys or anything like that. Our teachers said the school certificate was all we had to, and our history teacher who was planning on giving us an exam just left. So we basically had...

Help me with calculus qstn plz.

you can also do it by differentiating to get an expression for velocity, and then if you solve this you get the time when the particle is at the endpoints of the motion. i.e. where velocity equals zero and so the particle turns around and heads in the opposite direction. Then you sub these...

    Limits (infinity)

ok i can follow wogboy's example, but i get stuck on yours Winston when you get to 1 - 1/ x^4 ------------- 1/ x^2 - 1/ x^3 so then you say just cancel everything divided by x because it will equal zero. But then wouldn't you be left with 1 / 0 which you just can't do?

    AC motors

I think it should be ok if you just know the basic features of each different type, like synchronous and induction. What are universal motors? I've never even heard of them and my textbook has nothing on them.

What booklet? What live thing? Are you just talking about the open day..

    quick relativity question

I was talking about relative velocity... how the people in each spacecraft would see the other spacecraft. Isn't that what relative velocity is??
  13. D

    quick relativity question

really?? I don't think it is. Because light cannot travel faster than itself, so how could you, who rely on light to see possibly observe anything faster than c? isn't this where mass dilation comes in? Each spacecraft would see the other spacecraft grow in mass, because you can't see...

    Electron Bands Theory

The Fermi level isn't the top energy levels at absolute zero. It's the top of the available electron energy levels at low level temperatures. I got that from notes, and now this is my guess why its in the middle: It is positioned between the conducting band and the valence band for...

    Projectiles Help

We did this experiment at school. We used a toy trolley cart at a fixed angle, but that a slingshot would be a good idea, just with a rubber band or however you make them, glue to a wedge of wood at a 45 degree angle and then mark a line or point that you pull it back to each time before firing...

    is it 2 late

It all depends how you're assessment marks compare to your classmates. Cos if they al did poorly too then you've still got as much chance as anyone. It's your ranking that matters not the actual marks because they scale each school when they compare them to each other. And even if you did just...

    Open Day

I'll be there i guess.. have to make the decisions soon. My teacher wont stop going on about Sydney, the only uni worth going to according to him. When do we have to put in our preferences to UAC?

    Need for collaboration...

yeah i did the polymer chemist one as well... i said that when they looked at proposals by the research chemists they look at problems of contamination, packaging, flow rate etc. This involves collaboration between the polymer chemist, research chemist and technicians. I got that off a web...

    verb list

I'm making my summaries up and im doing it off the syllabus, but I need that verb list which tells you exactly what they mean by define and explain etc. I can't find it on the Board of Studies web site, does anyone have one or know where I can find it?

    NaOH Absorbs water from atmosphere

I'm not sure but I thought it NaOH was absorbed by water in the atmosphere when it rains. So it forms water in clouds (not quite sure on this) and then when it rains as it falls past the gas it reacts with it. Sodium hydroxide is a strong base, so when it reacts with water it will dissociate...
