Lol..I asked a very similar question and apparantley if toy are ranked first, you will most likey recieve the highest mark your school obtains in that particular subject even if you're actual exam mark wasn't the highest.. I think this is right...

You should really write your own notes as it helps you to understand the course better. When writing them you area lso revising them at the same time. Although, having other people's notes etc is always good because sometimes you miss important points etc.
