    Should i get a tutor?

i dunno if it counts as tuition but i went to those maths camps that they use to train people for maths olympiads. you've got to be good to get in but then you learn heaps of extra stuff there (shortcuts, etc). otherwise, nah, i dun think there are many good tutors around.

    Sketching trig functions

i've lived thru high school without a stencil...so it's a luxury item if you've got one but it's not necessary, it's better to learn to live without one...

    james ruse

if u come below-average at ruse, you won't feel so bad cos you know the standards are really high there anyway. Just some ppl still get low self-esteem cos they don't realise that. But if you come top ten at ruse or somethin, your family and relatives will (or should) be very proud cos...

    Should i get a tutor?

flyin, wot school do u goto? well depends also on how good the tutors are, and whether their thinking style suits you. If that happens then the tutor would be useful, but you'll never know until you try it. I guess try to find all the things that you have trouble with, and find a tutor...

anyone know any good chem tutors? like real experienced ones?

good luck finding one... i dun think there's any good chem tutors that would actually help you do well in HSC "chemistry" You might as well get an english tutor...

pffftr...how many year 6's know about world issues? do they spend their lives watching BTN or something? and yeh, median UAI last year was 99.00, so for some of us, as Bambul mentioned in another thread, we only refer to our UAI by the last two digits, e.g. "point seven five", cos the first...

    Who DOSN'T do Physics

For the preselection stage for science olympiads, they choose 20something ppl to a summer camp. In chemistry, out of these 20something people, there's only ONE girl. Equality? pfffter...

    james ruse

i dun think we'll ever know that cos they don't publish lowest UAI and our skool won't do that even if they knew what it was...

    james ruse

i 'went' to ruse a lot of other ruse ppl have been around, but i dun think they're bothering anymore. well i dunno how many are still reading the posts, but i'm quite sure noone has been posting.

    Nooby tutors - your thoughts

the trouble is people get high marks, and so they 'think' they understand something that they really don't. believe me, a lot of people do maths ~mechanically~: the teacher tells them to do a type of question using a specific method, and they do that not knowing why they should be doing it...

    Nooby tutors - your thoughts

hmm...especially in maths. Getting high marks means you have the ability to do maths, but not necessarily teach it. Because people think differently is the key problem, and teaching how to think is really hard especially when you used to do it naturally without really training yourself...

    Nooby tutors - your thoughts

hmm...just that when I see other ppl offering tuition, i know they got a lower mark than me, and even i'm not confident in tutoring those subjects, yet they bother... isn't it a little unfair if you know you're not really qualified yet u teach them? considering most ppl only settle for one...

    Nooby tutors - your thoughts

maybe this belongs to the 'non-school' forum, but anyway: The question is: Are ppl who just finished the HSC this year qualified to tutor ppl for the HSC next year? Why / why not? And if so, how much would you pay for 1-on-1 tuition with such a tutor? Would you prefer a tutor who...

People who got >90 in subjects: how did you study?

Re: Re: 'Slice of Heaven' and 'drolle' Hmm, first thing, DON't let your hatred of your teacher be the cause of you failing physics. He/she's not worth it. Secondly, since you can't rely on your teacher, you have two main options. Read thru the dot-points / textbooks (i used jackaranda)...

    top 10 schools?

hmm...but the problem with that is how to measure ability: how to know whether a group of people is average, above average, or super-smart, or etc. with the statistics proving anything, I think it rather stupid when Watkins says (about the 25% increase in band 6's): "it's not marks inflation...

    Ne1 get a uai below 80

then you'll prolly have a harder time at uni. From what I hear, there's more people like that in the real world.

    Who DOSN'T do Physics

    that is SOO true

I know I'll regret this, but...

hmm...passive tutoring maybe we dun go out of the way to deliberately teach something
