100 UAI, 4 state rankings - English (Advanced), EE1, EE2 and Ext. History tutoring

Considering you graduated in 2004, I'll just politely ask that you not hijack this thread again... Thanks for the bump anyway.

UAI predictions- how accurate were we?

I'd advise people not to put too much stock in their school's UAI predictions. The curriculum coordinator at my school used my assessment marks and ranks to predict a UAI of 99.50-99.75 for me according to his SAM-like program, and I ended up getting 100. Everything can change with the exams...

Hahaha, I'm honoured to accept the post. I hear the sciences have turned to shit too...

    brain dead

I think this thread should serve as a testament to the fact that the HSC is for the most part intellectual wankery.

I can still remember my Modern History quotes word for word... "Despite the veneer of efficiency, it is clear that the Third Reich was a bedlam of rival hierarchies, competing centres of power and an ambiguous chain of command" - DG Williamson I suppose it'll make for some interesting...

    Query

Exact same thing happened to me. I was ranked first in the subject, both according to my teacher and studentsonline, and I ended up with an assessment mark of 47 and an exam mark of 48. Thanks to averaging I still ended up with 48/50 overall, but it's most curious that an anomaly like that...

    invitation from USYD?

Errr...I took another look at my Usyd invite, and it's not a breakfast. Rather, it's an "afternoon tea". Here's what it says: Either we've all been referring to the afternoon tea lazily as a breakfast, or they're completely different.

100 UAI, 4 state rankings - English (Advanced), EE1, EE2 and Ext. History tutoring

We're talking about Extension 1 dude, not Extension 2.

What didn't count in your UAI calculation?

2 unit maths (95) didn't count for me.

100 UAI, 4 state rankings - English (Advanced), EE1, EE2 and Ext. History tutoring

I also topped EE1 at my school, with an internal assessment mark of 48/50. A panel of judges compared our essays, I have no doubt about it. Thanks :).

    B. Law

Any idea how much study/effort is required to maintain a distinction average, specifically at Usyd?
  12. c_james

    invitation from USYD?

    Arts/Law :).

100 UAI, 4 state rankings - English (Advanced), EE1, EE2 and Ext. History tutoring

About 10 or so students get 50/50 each year; these 50s are ranked.

100 UAI, 4 state rankings - English (Advanced), EE1, EE2 and Ext. History tutoring

    I received the following marks in the HSC: 2 English (Advanced) 97/100 97/100 97 6 (ranked 10th in the state) 1 English Extension 1 50/50 50/50 50 E4 (ranked 2nd in the state) 1 English Extension 2 50/50 50/50 50 E4 2 Legal Studies 97/100 96/100 97 6 2 Mathematics 95/100 95/100 95 6...

    What UAI did you get?

I strongly recommend you do not do this. I did 12 units, SOR I being one of them, and believe me when I say you NEED those backup units. I actually ended up getting 49/50 in SOR, ranking 10th in the state - funnily enough it counted, and my 2 unit maths, for which i got 95, did not. Had SOR not...

    invitation from USYD?

For Usyd. UNSW likely have different criteria - I listed Combined Law at UNSW as my third preference and haven't received anything from them.

    invitation from USYD?

I think only people who got 99.95 or 100 were invited, which sucks. A lot.

    invitation from USYD?

I also received one with my scholarship notification. Suppose it can't hurt to bring the parents along.
