    Economics in yr 12

    some fun reading material :p : The Economist (brilliant!!! especially for globalisation...) Australian Financial Review SMH - Ross Gittins. Also watch Alan Kohler give the wrap up of business/economics news on ABC 7pm news, he's very good at explaining things simply in a manner that is...

    Frontline

    Well I personally loved the tapes, and watched them a few times for fun since my friends also did. it was never a conscious thing for me of having to "learn" the episodes, i could quote etc just coz i found them funny. Nevertheless i recommend you do know all of them well enough to be able...

    Film Noir Conventions?

    I think u should refer to film noir merely as being a means by which the hbcf is expressed, rather than focussing on film noir itself. My general stance was that the genre of CF developed as a response to society and reflected societal attitudes. Thus The Big Sleep reflected post-war...

    king lear - cut thearte/brook productions

    Ok I did some searching, and found my notes last year on CUT. I can't remember haf my abbreviations and I haven't read through it since so i don't know what is actually in this document. Hope its helpful though :)

    Calling all those who did well in English Advanced

    I don't have anything on my computer, otherwise all my notes would be already "uploaded" for u guys. :) As for the half-heartedly comment. If you're not going to learn the material and be comfortable enough to discuss it, learn at least 2 essays *really* well. Practice using them with enough...

    wat do u's think??

    Hmm ok. Well don't let that dissuade you. You've worked hard (and u can gauge to a minor extent ur standard against others not at that school by coming on these boards)... You can't really go into the exams in a better position than that in which you are already. So the only thing u really...

    wat do u's think??

    Hmmm ranked first in everything (well...except english). What school do you go to? Coz most decent schools would mean u'd be getting at least 98+ ???

    Calling all those who did well in English Advanced

    True - prepared essays do work for some, but if you do it you have to do it well you can't do it half-heartedly. I'm just saying that if you don't know entire essays off by heart, its not the end of the world, don't get intimidated by others saying that they do know entire blocks of text by...

    Calling all those who did well in English Advanced

    I also had a dreadful eng adv teacher last year and was just soooo unmotivated to study for exams. I tried to make myself find *something* in each unit that i liked and so would motivate me to work. I love frontline, so that was ok. I enjoyed the play Lear but hated the readings element of it...

    Frontline

    Hehe i loooved frontline, watching it was my "breaktime" last year :D Anyway...rather than watching episodes as discrete, separate entities, try to find some recurring themes and structure your notes that way, and under each train of thought also put in some examples from your related...

    king lear - cut thearte/brook productions

    hmm I think i saw the Cut production last year at unsw. It was minimalistic - everyone was in white and all the actors were young. It emphasised the universality of the emotions/issues that King Lear portrays by downplaying the relevance of them being royalty - many references/scenes to such...

    where would i find....

    www.abs.gov.au Next tuesday though the rba meets (i.r's may change, though doubtful), and also keep reading the papers, as general stats/trends are often being released, particularly now for the september quarter! :)

    using abbrev. in economics tests

    I wouldn't...A lot of it is about "impression marking". They probably wouldn't explicitly take marks away from you, but it would detract from the overall quality of your piece of writing. Don't chance it.

    Uai 100

    well if you look in Pigs' 100 thread you'll see that because of rounding 100 is allocated to those who are the top 99.76% of the state. 99.75-99.36% then get 99.95 etc etc...So there should be half as many ppl getting 100 as there are on any other increment. To demonstrate, there were 42 ppl...

    HSC 2002 School Rankings

    Well the list on the first page of this thread was done like that, coz my school was on it and it definitely would not be otherwise! :)

    global financial flows

    Basically all the percentages from ur textbook regarding how much financial flows/FDI has increased blah blah blah... Just think rationally about it. The advent of the internet and ICT, cheaper travel, the rise of TNCs and MNCs etc has meant that there is far more FDI and many more...

    the chance of me getting a uai 100

    Ego...scholarships...certainty about getting into course...? But you're right...getting into the course is ultimately what is important! :D (so keep that in mind u 100-hopefuls)

    grade point average??

    Go minai! :) I think wam is a much more fair reflection though...Otherwise the second u dont get an HD ur average is permanently less than 7 :( Wam also better reflects the difference between whether u get, for instance a 74 or a 65 when u get a CR, or whether u get 84 or 75 etc etc...Hehe...
  19. timmii

    grade point average??

    HD = 85+ D = 75+ C = 65+ P = 50+ At least at usyd/unsw. I think some unis like ANU may have things a little different.
