    How are beta emitters manufactured?

Neutron bombardment (ie neutron-induced transmutation) ought to suffice to be able to produce a beta emitter. Basically, increasing the no. of neutrons in the species would increase the Neutron:Proton ratio, and beta emission can be conceived of as a process of converting a neutron into a...

Yeh, I went to Dallas for a weekend thing last year, and while his style was highly condescending, that weekend did nonetheless manage to drill into me a couple of the expectations associated with doctors in society.

    Everyone's a Journalist nowadays....

Well firstly, the media at times "muddy the waters of what is true and what is not", so the citizen journalist would possibly be seen to fit right in. If you, however, take the media to be some pure, transparent vehicle for news broadcasting, then it depends on what type of journalist...

    The Desalination Plant

Well those articles make that point about the East not being deemed suitable by Carr due to it being his own electorate. I'm not sure why Port Kembla hasn't been considered more seriously. Maybe there is currently better infrastructure in the Kurnell region for desalinisation treatment.

^That's a good idea in my opinion. Unless you end up changing your mind and not wanting to do med after yr 11, which was the case with a friend. In general, for UMAT I'm not against tutoring as such. That can certainly come in handy if the establishments can provide sample questions to practise on.

    Question on Solubility

well if it is chromium (III), then in that case the precipitate ought to be green. Chromium(III) hydroxide is amphoteric however. I don't think chromium(II) hydroxide is amphoteric - it isn't highly charged enough. That does satisfy the blue colour though.

    Question on Solubility

I'm not entirely sure if your question is right. There probably should be some ammonia in it. Also, the pale yellow ppte is probably due to the formation of silver iodide, or bromide. So the counterion is probably I- - that's generally taken to be pale yellow in colour. As for the cation...

    adaptive advantage of haemoglobin

well the association of iron and oxygen is of an intermediate strength - that's what is meant by the fact that the dative bond between oxygen and iron can be broken easily. A similar concept holds for the hydrogen bonds holding duplex DNA together - the hydrogen bonds are of sufficient strength...

    genes, + amino acids

haha indeed. BIOL1001 was actually the most useful subject I did all semester. Though most of that marsupial, monotreme, El Nino, Olympic Park crap annoyed me. The central dogma lectures and Gillies' stuff was the best I'd say.

    genes, + amino acids

the genetic material is DNA, and that is composed of nucleotide units, which in turn consist of a phosphate backbone, deoxyribose sugar units and the nitrogenous bases -the purines and pyrimidines - in a double-stranded form. This nuclear material codes for the production of proteins, which...

    Famous Inverse Trig Questions

well g(x)=y, say; you seek g^-1(y)=x - ie the inverse function; so your task is simply to solve for x in terms of y, and since x and y are dummy variables, convert the expression into ones incorporating x as opposed to y. This applies in general to most invertible functions you'd...

    The Sciences Subjects

Haha, no way. Chem >phys>any other science, be it HSC-style or anything. A basic knowledge of physics is no doubt useful in any situation, but that's about it. Phys is useful in understanding chemistry and biology etc. I could rant on and on about uni physics, but that would take a while. In...

Scholarships - participation in the community

Yep, good point. I went for the commerce science one instead of the straight science one. This, in hindsight, proved a little costly, but I always wanted to combine science with guaranteed medicine anyway.

Scholarships - participation in the community

As for co-op and malcolm chaikin, what they are looking for (possibly above all else) is a passionate interest in commerce, as is to be expected. Pretty much everything - your personal qualities, achievements and whatnot- are secondary to a consideration of how committed you are to the field. I...
