    hydration of ethene

Either H2SO4 or H3PO4 is suitable - the catalyst simply needs to be some mineral acid that protonates readily - ie any strong acid that doesn't interfere with the reaction. The acid is required in order for the mechanism of hydration of ethene to proceed. And it must be dilute to avoid...

    Maths SSP

Olympiad-style chemistry basically consists of all the chemistry done in the 1st year of a science degree along with some 2nd year stuff. In some areas of chem - eg organic and analytical chemistry, the requisite knowledge goes further than even 2nd year stuff. Just as much as the theory, the...

    To clear things up...

the quiz also has to be done in the tute you've been allocated to I think - they don't allow you to take the quiz in another one running in the same week. Your best bet is that pink slip.

    Hsc Exams Before 1995

The dux is decided at SGS based on whoever tops the trials. As for Anthony Henderson, he doesn't lecture in any first year subjects apart from 1 unit in the maths ssp (special studies program). His mother, however, is the math1901(differential calculus) lecturer.

    solutions for cos

Yep, I think the best way is to use the intermediate value theorem, which is the same thing as graphing it, so either a table of values or a rough sketch should suffice. Edit: Newton's method may be of some use in locating the zero as well. Shafqat: we get around to proving it at uni this...

Question 2 is definitely b.) - you drain some of the remaining solution from the pipette by resting the pipette on the side of the conical for a fixed period of time - eg you rest it there for 2/3 seconds each time you titrate in order to make the procedure as reliable as possible.

WHERE ARE YOU UP2? (take 3)

Well I did do a fair bit of work, but somehow the amount of work was always incongruous with results for english advanced. I'm just glad that I don't have to encounter the randomness associated with the advanced english course and the markers any longer.

Bill Pender is indeed the head of Maths at SGS. He is a great teacher - he is able to adapt his level of teaching based on his class + he makes you work during classes by constantly choosing people at random to answer questions+ he's always encouraging + he sets a mean end-of-topic class test :)

WHERE ARE YOU UP2? (take 3)

Just to add to this conversation, MX2 wasn't hard as such, but required a drilling in of all the concepts to make sure that I was as fully prepared as I could be for the final exam - ie this meant a fair few questions each night and constituted maybe 1.5 hours' worth of work. Chemistry, which...
