    Why does HCl dissolve?

The oxygen atom has a higher EN than the chlorine atom (3.5 on the Pauling scale vs 3.0 for the chlorine atom). Firstly, this should be obvious, given that the chlorine atom is never part of any hydrogen bonding network (EN not high enough), and this relationship between O's EN anf Cl's EN can...

what uni is best for med?

it has had its graduate program running for a few years now (about 5-10?) - the science medicine course means that you complete an undergraduate science course, all the while possessing provisional entry into medicine 3/4 years down the track.

what uni is best for med?

It isn't a new course - indeed, in name, the Combined Science Medicine course is new, but it involves bringing together the science course at Usyd and the Medicine course there to form one course, and each of these components has a fair amount of street-cred.

    Enrolment Med.

seeing as this is the most recently active unsw med thread, I'll try and ask my question here. I've heard that you can pursue the study of other subjects apart from those administered by the med faculty from 2nd year onwards - ie maths, or phys or chem etc - not the gen-eds, but actual subjects...

    100UAI possible?

there definitely is luck involved - maybe not so much for HSC chem/phys and those dot-point oriented subjects, but it's subjects like english advanced/extenson 1 for which you better hope to get a marker of similar views with respect to the texts/ essay questions you can handle comfortably/...

    dumping complex no's

coroneos also has a good (though at times irrelevant) chapter 1 on complex numbers. Sections 1L and 1M are as challenging as any HSC question will get.

    National Undergraduate Scholarships

i got a national undergraduate scholarship or some such to do the b.philosophy with honours course, but that was mainly due to participation in the international chem olympiad....I was offered $5K per year for 4 years or something. No way I was going to ANU though.

Should I select chemistry for YR11???

well the "chemistry in focus" idea is one of the most important aspects of chem - its so useful. Naturally, with HSC chem, one is not equipped to deal with more complex problems, but the concept of that PHB/Petroleum stuff is a starting point for more general uses in society - for example, areas...

    major in pharmacology!

there are two pharmacology units of study in the intermediate year - i think each are now (as of this year) worth 6 cps each. So you do 6 cps of pharmacology per semester in the intermediate year, and then 12 cps per semester in senior year in order to major in it. I'm planning a pharamacology...

    100UAI possible?

That's twice you've been wrong bearpooh - exactly 3 people got 100, not 4 or 5, from SGS. Furthemore, roughly 29 people got over 99 UAI, not the dozen you said earlier.

    Hoping for med

you should have done your research before asking that question. There are plenty of websites etc that can help you out, so please look at those before asking questions such as these, which are answered with 10 mins research. There's also a pinned thread in the "University-general" section that...
