    99.95 for all maths/chem/phys/mayb eng

Kelvy: I think the discussion on my decision to study medicine at Usyd finished a fair few posts ago... ;) And, to explain more precisely, then, I certainly want to do medicine and I want to do it at Sydney where I get the option later on (after graduating and practising) to switch over to...

well, it wasn't that "issue" that needed to be explained "slowly and clearly" to quote myself...rather I wanted to understand what you meant regarding your idea of a compromised situation when balancing both aspects of medicine. As for late night convo's, uni demands mean I hardly even stay up...

well Rybotnic, you have to decide to not over-commit in your practice - you don't compromose yourself as a clinician, but rather choose, for example, a certain amount of people as a maximum you'll see, or open only at certain hours...then "a compromised position would not "arise" in that...

Rybotnic: (just to keep up this form of address) there are a few doctors I know who do both research and practise in their chosen fields. One of the people who does so lies in that last sentence...also, I have been assured by a number of other doctors that the clinician scientist/academic...

well, this is annoying, posting up all my personal reasons for switching on a bos forum page and that too, in shafqat's tutoring ad, but here goes. Well, the switch wasn't solely due to the slowness of foundations...there were heaps of other factors, and you probably know a heap of them already...

I realised that was not the best way to approach the matter, and that there were too many positives I was overlooking. I made that decision to go back 2 weeks ago or something, so it's old news now anyway.

LOL - insecure bookworms - the 4 year medicine course at Usyd has a heavy practical emphasis - more than unsw's course. The 3 years of science = theory + background work for a career in research - ie doctors who will know their stuff and be able to communicate effectively, engage in...

    UNSW Vs. UNCLE

the UNSW medicine course changed in 2004. You can't do the BSc (Medicine) or BSc degree combined with MBBS anymore, simply because of the way the medicine faculty have structured the course. Instead, they're offering a BSc(Med) hons degree for 1.25 years of research as an extension of the...

and you're conversing with shafqat on this thread "*why*" exactly? Edit: and sydney is going fine...what with not having to regurgitate graduate capabilites in a reflective essay of 3500 words at the back of my mind.

Who's doing the new Combined Science/Med course?

ok, firstly, if you get 99.90/99.95, you're pretty much in - there was only 1 person with 100 who accepted the offer. Secondly, unless you hope to do research at some point in your life, this course will be useless, frustrating and potentially disastrous...yes, most people who werer interviewed...

    Why does HCl dissolve?

I was mainly pointing out before that the hydronium ion has formula H3O+, not H2O+ as theChemCoach wrote before a subsequent edit. As I said, you're not going to be penalised for using the species H+ whenever dealing with acids, but the H3O+ species is a more accurate one to use.

    conjugate bases

Sliderule, the conjugate acid of a weak base is weak, and vice versa - you can't predict relative strengths by simply knowing that a species is weak. Also, the conjugate base of a strong acid is a negligible base and a strong base has a negligible conjugate acid - eg HCl and Cl- ions, where HCl...

    Why does HCl dissolve?

theChemcoach, the hydronium ion is H3O+. It doesn't really matter whether you use the H+ or H3O+ notation, though in general H3O+ is better and more accurate. Also, dissolution is always the conversion of a substance from it's state at STP (or whatever it's initial conditions, generally the...
