Can I use a pencil in HSC? Also can I use a blue pen?

From my knowledge I think this is correct - you can use pencil but you run the risk of it not scanning properly.

Is 3U math enough to get a really good ATAR

Maybe try ask your school if u can do 4U maths if you're confident, because I'm not 100% sure if a school can force a student not to do a subject. The reason 4U is good is that it makes ur 3U maths into 2 units, and imo 3U was easier than 2U maths (got 97 in 2u, 99 in 3U) so it's pretty good...

how to prepare for year 11?

Tbh only thing I'd recommend is testing out study strats before you go into year 12 so you know what works and what doesn't work.

How to prepare for year 12

For bio I wrote the notes. Can't remember what I did in the short holiday, but in the long summer holiday I wrote notes for the entire bio course (wanted to do the same for other subjects but bludged too much). Don't really think it matters if you write or type it, just depends on your...

PHYSICS GRAND DEBATE: ZHANGS V ACE V PEAK V SIGMA V ATLAS

I went to Sigma - Back when I went it was very cheap (like $60 for 2 hours, idk what it is now), assuming it went up due to very very high demand - Notes were very in depth, I basically used the booklets as my notes for exams, didn't bother writing my own notes like I did for biology - The...

How to prepare for year 12

A potential thing you could do is write your notes for your subjects for the first module so you're set for the term. This helps with repetition so you learn it by yourself and then again in class and then again for the assessment. If you do this, use multiple sources for your notes, so you can...

What does it take to maintain a wam of above 90-95 in a hard course?

Not sure if any unis still use GPA, but even if they do you can just write WAM on your resume anyway. That's what I did when MQ was still using GPA because I had an 85+ WAM but had a credit etc. In terms of how hard 85+ is, my WAM is just below 85 in actuarial MQ and I've basically crammed for...

I don't know what I want to study

I can't comment since working in general is not fun to me, I wouldn't find any job fun. Also the people you work with also have a big impact on a job being fun or not.

I don't know what I want to study

You can always ask past students/current uni students what it's like working in those specific fields you mentioned (engineering/medicine etc) to get an idea of what it's like studying them. However take it with a grain of salt because often the job is way different to the actual uni course...

How important are raw internal marks to state ranks?

Agreed since I personally believe there's a little bit of luck with state ranks (if the exam questions are better suited towards ur strengths, if you make 1 silly mistake you could lose the state rank, etc).
  11. pikachu975

What if your internal unmoderated mark is the same when rounded to the nearest integer, but your rank is different?

Yeah depends on your school but if that tiny difference was the case, my school would just bump your rank up so you're tied (happened to me for English).

Why do people go to multiple tutoring centres just for one subject? Is there any benefit to it?

Probably have the mentality that quantity = quality but it's a good idea if your parents are rich and you like studying 27 hours per day But on a real note if you need more than 1 tutoring centre for 1 subject, either the tutor sucks or you're not asking questions about what they're teaching.

Is it wise for me to spend 20mins planning everything out including evidence for paper 1 like 20min inclusive essay and unseen if it means...

If you have very fast writing then it might work but I basically wrote whatever bullshit came to my head (cos this subject is about spewing bullshit) cos my writing speed was only average. Also I doubt it's changed too much but I remember unseen text section not requiring as complicated...

    English Trials/HSC Help!

Yeah agreed I had no idea how to get higher marks in English without tutoring so I just tried editing my quotes that I had after each trial (we had 3 trials) but my marks didn't change heaps, they just stayed around the same. Maybe it would've been better with better language since the 95+ mark...

    English Trials/HSC Help!

Agreed, I got a band 6 and my language was far from beautiful, it was just all basic language. Maybe if you're shooting for 95+ you might need nice sounding sentences but my basic language got a b6. Basically I was memorising essays and doing bad because "I wasn't answering the question", so I...

    silly mistakes

I found that saying what I was writing in my head sometimes helped identify silly mistakes since I was saying it in my head... Also yeah getting it right the first time is 100% better than going back and checking imo because it's soo hard to find mistakes the second time.

Physics or Biology for prelim and hsc?

I did both biology and physics and imo physics had way more memorising whereas biology was more understanding. E.g. a response for kangaroos in cold weather is their fur (easy to memorise because it makes sense). Also agreed yr 11 biology was very boring but yr 12 was good. The syllabus did...

    I feel like a failure.

You just estimate based on your rank and what band it usually gets. Like if you're at the higher end of band 4 then put 78, or if you're nearly the last b4, you can put 71.

    I feel like a failure.

Sorry not 100% sure unless u know b5/b4/b3 stats

    I feel like a failure.

For the ATAR calculation you don't enter the percentages for your assessments. Basically you wanna check your rank, for example for Economics it's 15/17, then check how many band 6's or 5's etc that your school usually gets each year, then estimate your mark based off that. E.g. if your school...
