    Advanced Mathematics !

I don't really know how exactly they do the scaling - maybe that should be a question left for someone who is involved in the marking (there are a few roaming around the forum). But I have heard people say that the scaling process ensures that a credit at normal level means the same as a credit...

    Science tranistion workshop day!!!

So what did you guys think of it? Did you enjoy the group activities and meet lots of friends who are doing similar subjects?

    Advanced Mathematics !

Read this thread: http://community.boredofstudies.org/224/faculty-science/197231/advanced-mathematics-usyd.html What I said in the above thread: I've helped several friends who did normal level maths and from my experience, the normal and advanced subjects are almost identical in content, with...

    Curiously, how are they derived?

    should i drop mathematics?

tommykins is right that studying psychology at uni will involve some study of statistics. However, usually several different levels of maths subjects will be on offer (e.g. life science, normal, advanced at USYD) and there will be one which doesn't have any assumed knowledge from HSC maths. So...

    Talented students program

Yeah that's probably because you won't be able to do a TSP project in your elective slot. I'll be in 2nd year when semester starts, but I'd definitely like to be a group leader when I'm in 3rd year (in 2010).

    Anyone else exicted?!!

It's not my first year at uni but I'm still very excited and I'm looking forward to the start of semester. I've spent almost the entire summer working at uni and will probably do that for all the summer breaks so I guess I'll be stuck there forever. :haha:

Trying to catch up on chem?

There are lots of tutorials on the internet (e.g. Learn Chemistry - Organic, Physical & AP Help, Article, Chemistry Tutorials, Quizzes, Tests, Homework - just google) that you can work through by yourself and if you run into trouble then you can ask someone. I'm happy to explain some basic...

    maths adv units

The prerequisite for adv level maths subjects is maths ext-2. However, you can still enrol into these subjects without having done maths ext-2 by applying for special permission (the pink form). If you did maths ext-2 then you should be able to enrol without the form.

Optometry at MelbourneU or Commerce/Science at Usyd?

What are you motivations for doing either optometry or com/sci? How do you feel about moving away from Sydney?

    Subject Selections 2009

I think so. I attended last year and made lots of new friends who are doing the same subjects and share lectures/labs/tutorials with me. The students are divided into small groups of 6-8 depending on their nominated area of interest. There are lots of fun activities and it's a great opportunity...

Interviews for a Dean's Undergrad Scholarship

Re: Anyone get called in for a Dean's Undergrad Scholarship??? Nope. That one is the Scholarship for Outstanding Achievement. This one, according to Scholarships - The University of Sydney, is Dean's Undergraduate Scholarship in Economics and Business Awarded to a student scoring 99.5 or...

    Subject Selections 2009

That's fair enough. Plus if you do well in normal level maths in semester 1, you can always change to advanced level next semester (I think you need credit or better). Remember to come to the science transition workshop!

    Agricultural economics - maths

You should be fine doing the life science level maths subjects (MATH1011/1015 in semester 1 and MATH1013/1014 in semester 2, I believe) because those have no assumed knowledge requirements. But if your degree requires you to do maths at the normal level, which requires maths ext-1as assumed...

    Subject Selections 2009

Chemistry SSP and adv streams only differ in the labs, and chem SSP has awesome labs. I had so much fun in those. Only chem SSP students get to participate in the SYDONA project (joint effort of USYD and U Arizona) - you get this complicated recipe to make a mysterious coordinated compound over...

    PHYS1001 or PHYS1901

If you need more convincing, then I'll say that I agree with Templar. I had the same concern as you when I started uni wondering if the adv/ssp subjects will be so much harder and whether I'll handle it. It's really not a big deal. I even somehow got myself accidentally into informatics (adv)...

    Grad Med decisions

It isn't necessary to do B Med Sci to get into a graduate med program. Graduate medicine admission is open to students with any bachelor degree and offered on basis of GPA, GAMSAT and interview performance. The combined medicine program at USYD offers combinations to a huge variety of degrees...

    Talented students program

The showcase project is about 10 weeks in semester 1. Like I said, it's the only project organised by the faculty so if you organise a project yourself then you can decide on the length with your supervisor. TSP students are lucky to be given a lot of freedom by the faculty so as long as you...

    Talented students program

In semester 1 of 1st year, all new TSP students are encouraged to do a group research project for the TSP showcase for 3 credit pts. It's a small project to get students interested in research and give them the confidence to participate in other projects in the future. There are several...

    Advanced Mathematics @ USYD

Yeah. He was perfectly fine until he didn't show up for a lecture. We sat there for about half an hour and then decided to leave. The next day we had Weber and he told us that Raimondo was hospitalised over the weekend for meningitis and passed away. With all due respect, it really freaked...
