With English, the syllabus proper isn't changed, the Board merely issues new prescriptions every 3 years. With all subjects, as has been pointed out they have a shelf life of quite a few years, but occasionally minor amendments will be made, e.g. the change in standard temperature/pressure in...
I didn't find it too hard. The main issue for me is remembering all the different concepts. Other than that I've found the maths easier than Chemistry.
I did distance ed for Software Dev and Design through Karabar DEC, which is all the way down in Queanbeyan near Canberra. Yes, I live in Port Mac. It was terrible, but I ended up with 87, which isn't too bad.
Hmm, OK. I suppose public schools would have to abide by Department policies, whereas private schools could set their own policies. I go to a fairly independent Anglican school so I think my teachers have a lot more freedom in that regard.
Everyone seems to be claiming that teachers have no right to stop an enrolment, but does anyone have any evidence of that? Where's the Board regulation or Act of Parliament? I've always assumed that the school can stop someone doing something arbitrarily, except of course in the cases of N...
I'd say 4U Maths. Higher scaling, and I hear it's very common among med students. Not that that should be something you take into consideration, of course ;)
(I am biased: I'm picking up 4U.)
Study? Routine?</sarcasm>
I have no technique at all =/ I really need to start following a timetable for study.
I do keep a summary book for Maths, but my teacher gets us to do that in class. I'm hoping to set up a wiki site or similar sometime so I can keep better summary notes in an online...
On the weekend I saw someone make a spider using V instead of creaming soda. It was disgusting.
I really don't know why anyone would want to take energy drinks at all. There's a reason many schools prohibit them.
Instead of taking loads of caffeine, you can actually not go out to parties...
I'm not doing two papers for English this year - we're doing a Paper 1-equivalent. Not looking forward to next year though.
The BOS is currently considering merging the two papers into a single 3-hour exam, with Sections I and II common and a separate Section III handed out. This will only...
Where do people get this idea that schools can't 'technically' stop someone from doing a course from? Schools aren't even obliged to offer the course, so I can't see what would stop them from restricting who they accept as students for that course. Unless they're a public school, in which case...
Re: Did anyone finish their preliminary exams?
My exams start next Wednesday and finish the Wednesday after. I've got five exams, all 2 hour, and I get two full days off, as well as three half-days. I think I should be OK.
I've never had a teacher complain about stuff being too long. Obviously if you write 5000 words they'll probably raise it, but I'd think you'd be able to get away with 1200 or 1500.
There's one girl in my Physics and 3U Maths classes, which have 6 and 4 total, respectively. The rest of my classes - English, 2U Maths, Legal - are all pretty mixed.
It doesn't look to me like an official regulation.
I searched the Assessment, Certification and Examination Manual and found:
Also, the Board timetable advises the dates when they take entries for the courses. I can't find anything suggesting that you can't begin teaching the class...
Pedantic correction: you mean both Board Developed Courses (Eng, Maths, etc.) and Board Endorsed Courses (e.g. school developed courses, courses like Photography, Ceramics, etc.).
Otherwise yeah, they're a bit too boring...
I've always been told that if we haven't finished everything in the Prelim course by last week term 3, we're behind schedule, and we'll have to take up some of our valuable HSC time in term 4 to finish it off.
I note that the Board doesn't issue Preliminary certificates until late December...
