    Mock Trial

Just did mine against Wauchope High today and lost. I'm at St Columba, and solicitor. We were prosecution and I think we did really well, but I'm not the magistrate.

2009ers: How was your school day?

Maths - OK. Problem solving. Legal - OK. International law. Mock trial. English - OK. Got Macbeth books. Act I Scene 1. Physics - OK. Did an eggdrop experiment - had to build an egg protection device to stop it cracking from a two-storey drop. No-one succeeded.

2009ers: How was your school day?

Today was ordinary. Found out the date for our next round of Mock Trial. Came home to find a letter from Kate Ellis, whose staffers don't know how to spell or seal an envelope.

    Australia 2020 Youth Summit

I got a letter from Kate Ellis today. She ought to employ some people who a) can spell Port Macquarie as Port Macquarie, not Port Macquaire, and b) know that you're meant to seal an envelope before you mail it. Apparently now we're being divided into one of five working groups. This is a...

    distance ed- scaling

Well, when the marks are calculated for DE subjects, your cohort is the rest of the DE 'class'. Other than that there's no difference AFAIK. Not scaled differently, just assessment marks are moderated against the other DE students.

am i disadvantaging myself for future uni courses by doing general maths?

I'd assume that General Maths would preclude you from, say, Computer Science, or other very maths-ish courses, but you've still got the Arts and some of the other Science courses available.

    How many extensions?

English only is looking very popular at the moment :P Connected question: how many other people do your extensions? There are three Ext1 Maths students, plus one who's accelerated, out of ~35 students, at my school.

LOL. I should organise a coordinated attempt at that for the HSC. Thirty-odd students, all admitting to cheating :P

    Physics Help

You just need a basic grasp of algebra - pretty much substitution and some basic equation solving. You also need to be able to draw graphs, etc. - some basic stuff. It's not that hard. The whole scalar/vector thing isn't too hard. (My school starts the course with Moving About so we get that...

    Distance Ed

I did accelerated SDD by DE through Karabar DEC. It sucked badly. No motivation without a teacher. Have to say though, I did fairly well in the HSC, so they weren't that bad.

    Competition - low or high?

Yeah... I went through a whole lot of them studying for Chemistry last year (see sig) and I don't think I ended up reading too much of them, even the good ones. Besides, it's the making of the notes, as well as reading them, that helps.

    Competition - low or high?

I changed schools so I didn't know what to expect of my year. It seems, though, that they're all pretty smart, just they have times when they're switched off. Out of my Legal class, there's really two of us six who run the show, and in Physics only half of our class of six have this tendency to...

It was really a bit of a 'you had to be there' moment. Not nearly as funny in writing. Still, anything you've heard? (And why don't they have chicken salt in Canada?)
