    Macquarie v Sydney

Going to either wouldn't really matter that much as they both have great business schools. MQ has alot of industry connections and are renowned for accounting. USYD has the prestige factor (good if you're gunning for things like IB). Also, have you considered UNSW?

Highest level of mathematics needed to be taken to become a high school teacher?

For a Bachelor of education (secondary)/Mathematics you generally have to finish a three year science degree with a mathematics major where alot of the subjects in the later years (analysis - highly recommended) will give you a very deep understanding of the concepts for senior level...

    Is Engineering dead?

If you're not the slightest bit interested, DO NOT do it. It is very hard and the drop out rates are extremely high due to the mathematical difficulty. Plus, even when you graduate if you actually want to be an actuary, you have to pass several (14 iirc) excruciating exams to become a fellow...

WTF why can't you just cross-out a multiple choice answer and re-colour in the correct ones like you did in the HSC (suspect it may be electronically marked). Also SIX choices for multiple choice! :spzz:

Transfer from Law (UOW) > Arts/Science (USYD)?

You still have to do a full years worth of math if you go to USYD. Both unis have mid-year intake for science/arts, although UNSW would probably have more flexibility for semester 2 subjects.

New Transcript when transferring to another degree?

Yeah, pretty much the only way to hide fails. You can also apply for credit transfer so you don't have to repeat a passed unit. EDIT: Opps I thought it was transferring to another university

    Ethanol as a fuel question

It is soluble in water and is volatile, so it can be carried quite long distances. Ethanol will oxidise quickly (less than a few days), with carbon dioxide and water as the final products. However, ethanol can act as a precursor, leading to the formation of photochemical smog. Water or snow can...

    How do this differentiation question?

2^x can be rewritten as e^{xln2}. To differentiate, let u=xln2,\frac{du}{dx}=ln2 Applying chain rule \frac{d}{dx}=2^x•ln2

    Diagonalisable matrix proof

LOL I hate matrices (use back substitution when I can :rolf:) but I think it has something to do with the nxn matrix in that it has to have n numbers of unique eigenvalues for it to be fully diagonalisable. It also has something to do with the geometric multiplicity of the eigenvalue (not sure...

    Semester 1 USYD Chatter Thread

You'll eventually run into dynamics/continuum-mechanics if you're studying engineering (esp mechanical, chemical) or physical sciences and applied mathematics. Although in engineering there probably won't be much emphasis on deriving the equations, proofs etc whereas in physics and mathematics...
