"extract" - wrong word to use

Mm, yes, I suppose you're right... being used as a noun and not a verb. Either way, I don't think it's nearly as problematic as most people are making it out to be. (Edit: jumb and miss_salty beat me to it.)

"extract" - wrong word to use

The Board's glossary defines "extract" as follows: They obviously expected students to be very liberal in their interpretation of the word. (Edit: But in this case it's being used as a noun and not a verb. It's still not a big deal.)

The cut-offs will be recalculated for 2005 when all preferences are locked in on 6 January.

    Does 4unit maths......

It would require the completion of the Preliminary Extension 1 course (Yr 11). Not sure if that's what you're asking - otherwise, listen to Estel. :)

    Small class sizes

Ranks are not compared across the state. Essentially, your assessment marks will be moderated to have a similar distribution to the examination marks gained by your class. The HSC exams are used as a statewide 'benchmark' to moderate the assessment marks from each school, thus placing them...

    Raw English Marks

The latter would probably be the closest to the truth, but we don't know, because the Board refuses to release all raw band cut-offs.

    IT vs. UAI

Define "crap UAI". You'll also need to tell us whether IT is Industrial Technology or Information Technology.

    For anyone who knows

Standard and Advanced English are combined and scaled as a single course. Because so many students take it, the scaling is always average - neither up nor down. (Note that 'aligning' is different. See this flowchart for an overview.)

    Raw English Marks

Aligning also takes into account the difficulty of the exam - harder papers result in higher aligning.

    Scaled down?

The scaled mean for the combined Standard/Advanced candidature will always be close to the average (25.0) because the course is taken by so many students. You should be more concerned with your other courses. :)

    Does school affect alignment???

No - schools play no part in the aligning process. In general: Raw marks will be aligned up if the examination paper was too difficult. Raw marks will be scaled up if the students taking that course were 'very able' students (i.e. they tended to do well in all the courses they took)...

    curve-drawing templates and HSC exam

Yes, those equations are fine. You can't have, for example, the sine or cosine rules on there (A/sin A = B/sin B etc). It should also specify on the packet whether or not they're appropriate examination materials.

    HSC SCAVENGER HUNT!

No, but we'd like it to be related to the HSC in some way. :) That is disturbing on so many different levels... We'll add today's works to the DA list tonight!

Poor Area Of Study HSC exam result affect UAI?

Varying your total English HSC mark is very different to varying the mark for an individual question. SAM only accepts aligned marks anyway - the analysis was conducted with regard to raw marks. :) (See this flowchart for details.)
