    BOS Site not working sometimes?

We agreed on an appropriate settlement with Jeff prior to running the seminar.

what subject will get me the best result?

I would suggest postponing that decision until you're further into Yr 12 and you have a better grasp of what both courses require at the HSC level. e.g. You may find that there is some overlap between Physics and Chemistry and between Physics and Maths Ext 1. Or, you might find that you're...

any way of knowing mdp final marks??

Yes, you can apply for it. See this thread.

    STANDARD vs ADVANCED ENGLISH???

Yes. :( Example. I've been trying for some time now to create a giant FAQ to answer all of these questions, so we can just refer students to it... but it's terribly time-consuming, and a very large job for one person. I don't think it will be finished until next year. This whole mess...

    STANDARD vs ADVANCED ENGLISH???

It's not harder to obtain high raw marks in Standard than in Advanced. The distributions of raw marks from Paper 2 (Modules) are transformed to be the same as the distributions of marks of each group of students (Standard/Advanced) on Paper 1. This process uses the marks from Paper 1 to place...

    Raw band cut-offs. (Updated: 15/09/04)

Yep - exactly right. That mark of 56/100 in Physics would have been scaled up to around 68/100. (You can check this by entering 78 for Physics in 2003 using SAM.)

    Overall rank and mark ?

Correction: The school is allowed to disclose whatever it wants, but the Board recommends to schools that they do not disclose the actual assessment marks. However, the Board requires schools to provide you with your assessment ranks.

do they only use raw marks to count for 10 units>?

    No, it's not true.

    % ppl above certain UAIs

    Candidates in Subjects

It's possible. Though it could go both ways. Scaling typically changes due to shifts in course candidatures. If the students who chose not to take SDD this year were, on average, students of lesser academic ability, then the overall quality of the candidature will have been raised relative...

    Law Question [torts]

I can't imagine the damages assessment being different. Generally, a plaintiff would just try to bring all possible actions with the hope that one succeeds.

    Law Question [torts]

Yes. In many intentional torts, the offending act needn't actually be 'intentional' - it will be sufficient if the act was 'negligent' (though characterising the act in this way is different to bringing an action in negligence). Anyway, in those instances I think it would be possible to bring...

Determining aligned marks between band cut-offs

You can only approximate them, with varying success.

Incidentally, recent stats for 2004 are now available - serendipitous timing.

I've been told that the Board will be releasing that data sometime this month. Data relating to previous years can be obtained from their statistics archive or the Technical Committe's annual scaling reports.

We do. :) Let's hope it holds up.

    Timezone errors?

It's all fixed now. You should set your times to GMT +10 (Eastern Australia).

That data hasn't been released yet; no-one knows.

    General UAI system

*sigh* Most of it has already been said elsewhere. This is not true. The UAI is calculated from scaled HSC marks, which are in turn determined from raw HSC marks. Raw HSC marks are a 50:50 combination of external examination marks and internal moderated assessment marks. Neither component...
