Of course they have a right. If applications are incredibly competitive (just an FYI, they are extremely competitive at the moment), giving them more credentials to base their decisions on is a positive. You're right that the ATAR can't really be used as a primary indicator of job suitability...

Pretty much except the super high demand courses like Law and Medicine. In those cases, there's usually a de facto minimum level of high school performance which coincides with successful entry. What are you thinking of doing and what's your dream course?

Generally this only happens in the earlier rounds for courses eligible for that sort of entry but I don't see why you would HAVE to keep it at first after you've accepted an offer.

Nah, not really. I've just treated the thesis just like I would any other assignment. In the end, it's worth 18cp but I've always preferred to working down to the wire so the quality of my work is likely to be higher if I leave it late. From what I've seen though, most people have left it...
