Re: Should Maths be compulsory? IIRC eligibility has nothing to do with competency in English but length of residency in Australia does. It's a bit of a farce imo but to be fair, most students self-select into the tier which is best suited to their abilities (at least from experience).

In most cases, they have a limited amount of spots in a particular degree and they would use the standard ATAR system to allocate the spots until capacity is met.

There is a limit to a degree's capacity just like any other degree but in this instance, there isn't really a figure that they can report to represent this.

'NC' denotes that a course is new and as the cut-offs you see on UAC's website represent the last accepted student last year, naturally you won't see an ATAR cutoff for the courses you're looking at.

Previous knowledge shouldn't impact a student's ability to complete the module. Otherwise, this infers that the module wasn't properly taught. I wouldn't expect any change in regards to the difficulty.

If you find maths difficult though, I would probably reconsider doing engineering unless there's a particular field you want to enter which isn't as maths-intensive.
