Most Important Quality In A Teacher

The one quality which is pretty much impossible: complete objectivity.

    Biggest Distractions?

Yeah Facebook is such an effort in itself. I mean with all the random crap that just comes up I found I had a lot more free time after I deleted my account. With distractions though, I just think you have to derive enjoyment from small trivial things that don't take too long.

    The Big Picture.

In hindsight, these years of schooling might be better than what's ahead...

how significant are these early assessments?

Your overall class rankings after these results are the most important thing. If you've got that covered, then doing well is pretty much a kind of placebo effect for building confidence.

    Keeping yoru room clean?

I try to keep everything (or most of it) stored digitally. As for sheets/random pieces of paper, I reckon they're only useful in subjects like English and History.

    Need Help..because im screwed..

I agree - this is the most important question you should be asking yourself.

    Dropping Ext 1 Maths?

I dropped Ext 1 Maths from prelim to HSC because frankly, I reckon its a complete waste of time unless you can assuredly achieve a band 6, because something like more than a 1/4 of candidates do achieve 90% and over. And it was, for me personally, a really big weight of my shoulders.

Just a quick question on ATAR

The downside with having a really low ranking is that you are not the master of your own fate, so to speak. You will have to depend on others doing well (i.e. a band 6) as well as yourself doing well. Bottom line, you want to be as close to no1. as possible; that way you don't have to give a...

Need Advice: To drop or not to drop?

Keep it but don't give a damn about it. You'll still have 11 other units to rely on. Just make sure you pass Maths and its basically just one more thing you've got under your belt.

    stuffed up.

You can still turn it around because its only your first assessment, but with English you want to be extra careful about stuffing up again because even if you happen to score a really low HSC exam mark, it is still counted as your compulsory two units.

    taking time off

Honestly, I found that since the start of year 12, I've become pretty much indifferent to the assumed seriousness and gravity of the HSC. The day before exams or exam-style assessments, I usually just end up going for a swim or listening to music before going to bed and then having a quick...

    Motivation

Personally, this year I've become much more detached and indifferent to the whole HSC process. That's not to say I've stopped studying/caring but I'm not terribly bothered either way. Sounds weird, but its been working so far...

    How fast do you write?

Writing non-stop --> nearly reaching 1500 words. Then again, only a select group of people (fortunately this includes teachers) can probably read it.

what's ur ATAR aim and why?

I'd really like to have some sophisticated long-winded reason as to why I want 99.05 but in the end its just because I probably can.

    Creative Responses

I remember reading a sample postmodern piece a while back and I thought the ending was interesting if a little lazy. The writer had basically written a story about surreal perceptions (i.e. magically appearing chairs and pens that vanished) and then ended with something along the lines of...

    Manly Selective School/selective schools

Well at the end of year 10 I was considering moving to Manly Selective High School, but didn't end up going. In terms of getting accepted, I was the DUX of Year 10 and topped all my subjects but speaking to the principal, he said the thing that they took most into consideration was your level of...

    Unique Study Ideas?

Honestly, in the preliminary course I studied pretty much at the level needed for the HSC and I did pretty well. This year, however, I've just become so much more detached and indifferent to the whole process of the HSC that before an assessment or exam, I just inexplicably believe I'm going to...

English is a waste of life.

Not really as long as you acknowledge that there is an inescapable difference between a good essay and a "HSC essay."

Thoughts on the Half Yearly Exams

Two more to go... They were all really straightforward though and compared to the yearlies in the preliminary course, there seem to be far fewer strenuous questions. Probably because teachers are biased and want their students to do as well as possible I reckon.
