    Conflicting Perspectives Question

This is the way we've been taught, is that you go through it thematically, ie. 1. Explain a 'common theme' in Hughes/Plath and how they conflict through language features 2. Do the same with another theme/issue/occurrence 3. Then use two other texts and show how conflicting perspectives are...

Romanticism --> anyone doing 'Possession' by AS Byatt?

Because if you are, please, PLEASE, tell me how you're constructing a thesis on it. Seems like a crock of feminist bullshit to me, and want to know what anyone else has taken from it (if anything). All I've focused on is the parallel between Maud/Christabel and Roland/Randolph, as well as Ellen...

As far as I know, you formulate your own interpretation due to your context. It doesn't have to be under a labelled heading, in fact we know that just covering the basis of different readings is frowned upon. Just extract a few things that you uncovered in your own reading- my ones were along...

Erm, the way we have been taught is that you're not really supposed to LABEL the different ways of looking at the text- ie. you don't say 'this could be read feministly' or 'this is a post-colonial text', because the idea is, you're critically analysing in relation to your own personal...

Hmm, I think I may send her a message, because if you think you're hopeless, well, never fear, I am shockingly bad. Oh god, all we've been told is PARADIGMS PARADIGMS PARADIGMS. I think I'm just going to try and create a thesis for individuality and imagination and leave it at that. I'm...

    BOS Showcase: 2009 Major Works

I didn't do the 'official' GAP year thing, just travelling. January - April i'm in Switzerland at a French College, May-June i'm in Europe with friends, June - September I'm counselling at an American summer camp (organised by CCUSA) and then October onwards is not planned yet, though I think...

    BOS Showcase: 2009 Major Works

Reality? Do the Gap year. I'm travelling next year- everyone I know whose ever taken a Gap year has said it has been the most rewarding experience of their lives so far. I can't believe your parents said you were too young, I'm 17 going abroad next year. Have some ambition, go for it! Why...

    Romanticism practice papers

Ours was something like... 'Romanticism was concerned with the individual's aspiration and value. Discuss this in regard to your texts' blah blah. We have a terrible teacher and have literally done nothing on 'the imagination'. Can someone explain to me the significance of the imagination...

    is taking 10 units stupid?

+1 But you have to be responsible and committed around assessments/study. Hey, I did 10 units this year, despite my school's reluctance (and subsequent retaliation) and got dux. Go for it.

Benefits of doing X2 english ?

I know this sounds wanky, but you can only really decide for yourself. Extension 2 requires a lot of dedication if you want to do well, as well as natural creative talent and many, many hours spent researching/refining/editing. Personally, I did the course because I enjoy, and have had past...

I want to write a story. But about what?

A concept comes before a situation or scenario. It could be, for example, a way of thinking- my concept this year was how consumerism effected society- from that concept I was able to concoct lots of hypothetical scenarios and ideas, and then from there I was able to write. People approach...

I want to write a story. But about what?

I dunno, I think the basis of your ideas are quite good- but context, and maybe your explanation is a little...simple and cliche. There are some issues/ideas/themes in your ideas which I think are well worth exploring, but only if you can deconstruct and write about them in a fluent and...

2009 HSC Performances - How did you go?

Do they do Music 2 first? Anyway, I did my performances, and I think I did quite well- it was the best I'd done them. I got really good vibes from the examiners who were bright and cheery despite it being so early. So, overall, it all went really really well!!!!
