    Does anyone write poetry?

I've had a few friends contribute to that. It's a good magazine.

    The Beijing Olympics

Re: Boycott of Olympics The problem isn't awareness. People know about this. Governments worldwide have known about it for years. The point is this isn't going to do anything good. Athletes will be disappointed and the Chinese people themselvevs will lose money. Sending them there...

    The Beijing Olympics

Re: Boycott of Olympics Agreed. People are aware of the issues in China. This isn't going to raise awareness nor is it going to help anyone. If it's symbol that's going to cause more damage than anything why do it? Also, why wouldn't what happened at the 1980 Olympics be repeated? Same...

    The Beijing Olympics

Re: Boycott of Olympics That's not really the point being made here. A boycott would do virtually nothing. It didn't do anything for the 1980 Moscow Olympics and it will be more of a symbolic measure than doing anything practical. That'd be something better than a boycott but at the same...

    The Beijing Olympics

Re: Boycott of Olympics Applies to boycotting Made in China products. Yet you're willing to boycott the Olympics even though the Australian gov hasn't said anything about it and you know that the consequences are A) more symbolic than pratical and B) detrimental to athletes who have worked...

    The Beijing Olympics

Re: Boycott of Olympics I googled. There was nothing. So why doesn't that apply to the Olympics? Bit flawed in your logic aren't you?

Re: Boycott of Olympics What did PETA ever accomplish with a petition? And buying Chinese products gives MORE money to the Chinese Government. So why don't we stop buying products from China? That'd be a much more effective boycott. I don't understand why you keep skirting that issue. It'd...

    The Beijing Olympics

Re: Boycott of Olympics I'll try and find it but I remember the news stories on TV at the time had all this footage of teenage gymnasts bawling their eyes out because they'd never get another chance to go to the Olympics cause of the whole age thing. Yeah... Lots of good that did.

    The Beijing Olympics

Re: Boycott of Olympics Well, they're probably going to put the thousands of dollars they spent to get there to good use. You sure this isn't personal for you? Look, like Katie said the Chinese Government isn't going to get all the money. A lot of Chinese locals are too. It is...

    The Beijing Olympics

Re: Boycott of Olympics I'm saying that it's not going to do anything. It hasn't in the past and it won't now either. Even with the boycott, these events will sell out and there will still be a lot of tourists going who have already booked their tickets and accommodation. Also, the...

    The Beijing Olympics

Re: Boycott of Olympics Um, unless you haven't noticed, even without the Olympics, China has an incredible amount of power and money. Boycotting the Olympics might be symbolic but it's not going to achieve anything in the long term.

    The Beijing Olympics

Re: Boycott of Olympics Yes but there is no way every single country is going to boycott it. The IOC was moronic for giving it to them in the first place. Why only start yelling about it now? Why weren't you furious when it was awarded to them seven years ago?

    Does anyone write poetry?

Sometimes rhyming is a good thing but you really need to work at it. It's all about beat, meter and keeping it even and consistent. In that piece, it's a bit more messy than cohesive. Also, edit your work. Don't write a whole piece and think it's finished. Editing and refining poetry is about...

I have that t-shirt. Every time I wear it someone has stopped me and told me they love it. It's a classic.

    Does anyone write poetry?

Blah rhyme scheme. If you're a beginner with poetry, avoid rhyming. Perfection is a pretty bland adjective and doesn't really give us a clear image. The image of 'angelic fire' is pretty trite as well. The repetition of "pit/s" is also quite vague. It'd be more interesting if you expanded it...

    The Beijing Olympics

Re: Boycott of Olympics Did it work for the 1980 Moscow Olympics? I'd say no. What exactly is it meant to accomplish in the long run? It won't affect the economy and it'll be to the detriment of the sporting community. In the long run, I agree with Stef, this is "Protest Lite".

    Creative ways to apologise

I was serious. She was being hypocritical by calling other people rude because the whole situation stemmed from her being a bitch to her friend who was obviously emotionally sensitive. It's a terrible thing to do and as such people called her out on it.

As long as you admit that what you're reading is soap opera crap and you have absolutely no literary taste whatsoever, I'll be happy.

    twilight series

I'm attempting to convince you that reading this crap is just as bad as being addicted to something like General Hospital or something of that ilk. It's soap opera in print form but what makes it worse is that it's not recognised as such. Blech.
