    Semester 1 Chatter Thread (2010)

I know hey. Like first years, GTFO of my bar. GTFO of the line for coffee. Stop dressing so weirdly. Be more cool. But then I'm in my 5th year of uni and am no longer a dork. Took me long enough.

    Rudd's "Education Revolution"

malfoy-sama, I know loads of preservice teachers who would encourage debate. If you look at the english syllabus, there's a big ole focus on critical literacy. So yeah, show a Michael Moore doco but then discuss it. How does he try to convince us? What other viewpoints are there? What evidence...

    Rudd's "Education Revolution"

Haha yeah it'd probably just confirm what everyone already knows.

    Rudd's "Education Revolution"

Plenty of private schools are no better than the public schools in the area. They may have more resources, but the teachers might not be as good (esp since you don't actually need a completed degree to teach in some of them *cough catholic schools cough*). Depends on the area more than...

Issues of the LGBT community in Australia...

I agree. All the legislation does is protect the rights of people in relationships. This should include all kinds of relationships between adults. Should have nothing to do with who these people are, they should all have the same legal standing. And if this legal contract happens to be called...

    Rudd's "Education Revolution"

The syllabus does not tell you HOW to teach, only WHAT to teach. So there's no way that changing the syllabus is going to make private schools level with public schools. Private schools will always have better resources, teachers that are held more accountable because parents have a high...

    Rudd's "Education Revolution"

Yeah I'm not sure how the new curriculum would drop the standards of private schools?

    Rudd's "Education Revolution"

I think it's important for kids to talk about issues that they'll be hearing about in the news. They don't exist in a bubble, and climate change is an important issue regardless of how you feel about it. Let the students research, debate and discuss it.

    Rudd's "Education Revolution"

This is just the curriculum being implemented, not a changing in teacher standards or accreditation. The Graduate Teacher Standards are not being changed, and this is what your accreditation is based on.

    Alice in Wonderland 2010

Let's get SO HIGH. and then watch it.

    Rudd's "Education Revolution"

Not really. Effective pedagogy will still be effective with the new syllabus, and the bulk of the syllabi will be the same as before. Maybe a couple more things added and some new ideas or perspectives.

    Rudd's "Education Revolution"

It's still up for discussion, so this is where all the teachers and parents and stakeholders who weren't involved in the writing process will hopefully be able to make some important changes. Hopefully. All the people in my course have been encouraged to contribute, since we'll be the ones...

    Tans: Yes or no?

Accept whatever colour you are. Don't roast yourself, you'll end up with awful skin at 27. Don't fake it or you'll turn orange.

    Rudd's "Education Revolution"

That's the problem. Parents only know how to measure success in NAPLAN numbers. So in order to win voters the government tries to improve these numbers, nevermind attempting to forge rounded, critical humans.
  16. scarybunny

    Rudd's "Education Revolution"

Fark. If a school told me to do that I don't think I could. It's ridiculous because no child taught JUST to meet NAPLAN standards will do well in the HSC. There's no complex or critical literacy in it at all, and in theory the HSC is supposed to involve some level of critical thinking. Although...

    Rudd's "Education Revolution"

"It is expected that the implementation of the Australian curriculum (K-10) will be well underway in 2013 across the country. For some states and territories, 2011 will be a pilot year, with the experience and advice from participating schools used to guide implementation in the remaining...

It will absolutely not be implemented next year. It's still very much a draft.

A-E is being introduced in primary school as well, where it's completely unnecessary.

    Rudd's "Education Revolution"

Riet, I totally agree (and completely understand) that there is a finite amount of time in the classroom and I already fear that many teachers just teach children enough to meet the syllabus because there's just no time for student-directed learning. Most teachers already skip a lot of the PE...
