Audit - You go out to different clients (how long you spend at a single client can range from a few days to a few months) and do tests on their financial statements, stocktakes (someone in audit can probably elaborate more) Tax - A lot of compliance work with large corporate clients, like tax...

    Cadetships 2013 thread

I have a few cadet friends who are doing audit in financial services to gain exposure to the finance industry, because their ultimate goal is IB. Personally, when I was in your position, I didn't know if accounting appealed to me that much. I just knew that it would get me great exposure to a...

    Cadetships 2013 thread

I remember this came up in probably all my interviews. I was just open about it, especially since I'd applied for different divisions at each of the firms - it led to further discussions on what each division was about. At one of the firms I talked to the partner who interviewed me at the...

Nope I didnt - I think it would be fairly obvious if you did! What i did was brainstorm/make a list of all the extracurriculars/activities I had under my belt, and then i thought about what personal qualities they showed/what I learnt from each, so when questions came up, I had a lot of examples...

I think this is very dependent on the firm, your interviewer, or even just how you personally are responding to the interviewer. My first ever interview was just an easy conversation about school, uni life, the firm etc. About 30 min in the interviewer was like, oh I should probably ask you some...

    Cadetships 2013 thread

Its been a while since I've been here, but I met a couple of you at the info evening the other night, & thought I'd check in. A bit of background - I graduated from high school in 2011, and did my interview rounds at the big 4 firms & BAcc. I'm in my second year of uni, & started working at one...

    First year commerce subjects

In uni, any subjects with essay based assessments are extremely subjective and hence a massive risk - a lot of it just comes down to luck, and whether your tutor is a bitch marker or not. If the OP just wants to secure a spot in law through a high WAM, then it would probably be best to go for...

    The UNSW Textbook Buy/Sell Thread

Selling: 1st year Commerce textbooks (Note: Mostly old editions, hence really cheap - see the individual notes for each. From personal experience, old editions are completely fine, & you save a hell of a lot of money - I relied solely on textbooks because I didn't attend lectures and am...

    First year commerce subjects

The massive WAM boosters for me personally were: ACCT1501, ACCT1511, and ECON1203 My WAM killer was MGMT1001 - its a bit of a hit or miss,so if you're keen to get into comm/law i agree with everyone else about putting it off. I've heard FINS1613 is a lot easier in semester 1, they've gone...

Best way to get to UNSW from Castle Hill?

610X or M61 from Castle Towers (or anywhere along the bus route) to Central, then bus to UNSW.

    UNSW Subject Reviews.

Haven't done INFS1602, but what you've described pretty much sounds like marketing. Marking criteria is pedantic and very subjective, and the only good thing is that the final was pretty easy because it was mostly multiple choice repeated from past papers/practice quizzes.

    FINS1613 past papers

Cos kyung hates us. Nah, they probably do repeat questions, cos it can only vary so much. Also, i'm counting on the final to be more straight forward - my mate last sem got 96 for fins1613, so hopefully they've just toned down the difficulty. The only thing is that in the quizzes we had 20-30...

    Just straight forward WACC formula. Rd = 7.5%, Re= 11.6 (using CAPM) D/V=1/5, E/V=4/5 WACC = 0.2x7.5x0.6 + 0.8x11.6 = 10.18
