    Studying for exams

I just made summaries, they worked well for me. They say, the less you are able to put on a summary, the more that exists in your brain.

Comp. Sci. Elective for SECTE Student

Sorry, I'm not familiar with that one. However I do know that you will cover topics like Internet routing, LAN routing, Bit-torrent etc. in the 400 level ECTE networking subjects. Distributed systems sounds a bit different though... It sounds like something to do with distributed computing...

Comp. Sci. Elective for SECTE Student

I have no idea who Markus Hagenbuchner or Gene Awyzio are.... Luke McAven is not bad, maybe a bit boring. However, he knows his stuff. Tianbing is ok too. If you think you are a good programmer, CSCI103 is a waste of time. CSCI203 might be interesting, but many algorithms can be picked up as...

Post-grad ICT studies at UOW - first thoughts

Getting a good grade can't hurt your chances of transferring. I'd recommend hanging in there and just make the most of it.

Post-grad ICT studies at UOW - first thoughts

I'm sorry that you had such a bad experience with the UOW ICT program. However, to be frank, I would not count it as one of the top programs in Australia. You would be much better off going to one of the Sydney universities. The CS (I forgot what it is called now) side is much better in comparison.

Anyone who has/is at uow for commerce related studying

I did one very basic economics subject for fun... and I would say general maths is probably not enough. You should have at least 2U in my opinion. However, the good news is, it should not take long to pick up if you work hard.

How were your first days (or first days back)?

Oh, he is an awesome lecturer. Someone almost lost an eye when I was in his class. Although, I have been told that after first year, his lectures are boring.

    Applications Stealing Focus on OSX

Is there a third party app like tweak UI (on windows) for mac so that I can stop applications from stealing focus? Or is there some hack to do this? I have used Google to search for a bit... but didn't find anything.

    Computer for uni? (Eng UNSW)

Any cheap laptop should be fine, just make sure it has at least 3Gb of ram. I don't think you will be doing anything processor heavy in undergrad.

    Computer for uni? (Eng UNSW)

I use maple and matlab on mac, they run fine. Not sure about CAD... since I don't do that kind of stuff.

    Computer for uni? (Eng UNSW)

I agree, buying a netbook for engineering is a waste of money. You will need to use MATLAB all the time and that would crawl on a netbook. A laptop is useful if you don't want to be cooped in the lab all the time.
