He was never going to win because he was too ugly. Looks are quite important for politicians.

Well when I say looks I meant that in a political context. So someone who looks trustworthy, caring and warm might have an advantage over someone who is shifty looking, cold and aloof. Plus the "nerd" looks is in.

Oh yeah.

Last month's elections reminded me of the 2004 federal elections, in my opinion. Peter Debnam is like Mark Latham in some ways.

-during campaigns, they were both accused of being poor handlers of the economy.
-they were relatively new when they were opposition leaders at the elections
-they both lost their jobs as leaders of their party soon after they lost in the elections.

Unfortunately not every party has a massive union funded warchest and 1 000 000 free "State Plan" booklets at their disposal.

Freakanomics proved that contributing money to a party makes little to no difference in the outcome.
