so i have realised that now, nearing the end of my preliminary year, i have made some crappy subject choices. basically all humanities subjects, just see my signature.

as far as i have gathered, scaling plays a massive role in your ATAR, and there is a massive advantage if you choose the maths and sciences. i just chose based on what i was interested in, like the teachers kept saying, but they never told me how much difference it can make.

is it really that much of a difference?

is it possible to get 99.95 with humanities?

have any of you?

A good friend of mine from Dubbo got 99.95 last year. She got state ranks in Visual Arts, English Extension 2 and Philosophy Distinction. There were only Englishes and Histories in her subjects (+ Art and Philosophy).

It's entirely possible, and scaling seems to be becoming very balanced nowadays.

ok, so is it excessively harder or just a bit?
It depends on your skill level, if you arent that good at maths and science, but are great at humanities than doing maths and sciences will make it much harder.

All previous years to now you could have. You needed to have accelerated a course. There used to be Literature, Philosophy and Cosmology on offer, but due to the numbers always falling and the funs no longer available to facilitate it (BOS is a huge tight-ass here) the courses were cut back to just Philosophy and now they're all gone unless you want to pay money and do the "University Pathways" crap which does no count for your HSC at all.

It was a good course, I did it, and loved it.
