I've made a detailed spreadsheet on Excel that calculates an after tax, after superannuation cash pay with dozens of variables.

It's complicated as you have to consider things like the amount of leave you get...

$12 is a bit rough most of my realistic calculations give me something closer to $13, 13.5 depending on how much leave, overtime etc you provision.

About 14 at least I guess for new starters this year assuming they'll get what I think they'll get.

But again you still really can't compare to say, your mate earning $20/hour casual in hospitality or something as your derived hourly figure can't possibly take into account things like free wireless internet cards, laptops/peripherals, amex, phone plans, stationary, booze, parking and other perks which you would never get on a casual job..

Not to mention that any casual job of any form is unlikely to pay you attend the sheer amount of training/development days as you get exposed to at some companies.
nice calculating vagabond, btw see u next year!

Why did you rate RSG so low?
They put me into that division, then sold me on it. Can't wait.

i wanted to do something simple and easy to pick up and learn- and most RSG clients have very easy to understand business models (relative to FS) and since clients are typically smaller and less complex, u get a much bigger picture of how the company works... hence what made RSG such a great place to start off in. but when u get more advanced/knowledgable, u'll want to try something a bit more specialised and that's where i think FS is interesting. RSG is good to learn alot in a short period of time and as u do more clients, u pick up on shortcuts, can spot situations easier, etc..

FS on the other hand u get thrown in the deep end real quick and i think it's quite difficult for trainees initially because if u haven't even studied accounting and finance at uni yet, how u can form an expectation on the balances of derivative swaps is beyond me. that being said, if u manage to swim (rather than sink; or just taking the lazy route), there's so much u can learn and develop when u link market data, the news, etc... with what's happening within ur clients. it's great.

both are good places and each have their own pros/cons, different cultures, but plenty of training and development opportunities. :)
