I though 50mm was for portraits ?
50mm is good for portraits on a Crop sensor since it equals about 85mm. But its used as a standard lens on full frame. Its not too wide and not too long.
They use it for street photography

Yeah I do have a crop 1.6 sensor

No.. A zoom is more noticeable. Lol. Take a 70-200 and take shots from the roof hahaha.
200mm is not even that long on a full frame though, need an extender. I remember my 70-200 was decent on a crop (circa 320mm), although my mate had a 300mm on his 70D and that is insane (480mm).
