yeh im asian and my parents dont give a shit about wat i do. my mums obsessed with my lack of social skills / always appearing like some sort of serial killer when in public, never talking to ppl. shit i cant help it! anyway, my dad is all shitted about how i dunno how to cook and fix the car, how it takes me more than 12 seconds to change a light bulb etc for fuck sake sometimes i wish they become more like typical asian parents and force me into med or somefin.

so u see ppl, im living proof not all asian prnts are overtly pragmatic in their children's upbringing o_O

No l do not agree, just because you may know of a couple of Aisan parents who are like that doesn't mean that they all are.

I am discusted that some could post a thing like this. Next they will all be talking about the Aboriginals
oh please come one sarah
get real you cant whitewash (sorry bout the pun) everything pc
some cultures place a greater signifiicance on socialising sport, some cultures really value education
its a gereralisation sure, it doesnt suit everybody but its real, its and its possible a real issue for australians growing up with asian backgrounds

and btw im all for talking about 'the aboriginals' as you so put it, hell open up discussion its the only way were going to progress

i bet youre thy type of person that prefaces some comments with "look im not racist but..."

have you not considered the fact that they come here, not knowing the language or the culture, work their fucking asses off in factories and hard labour to pay your book and tuition fees, so that YOU, their children, won't have to work as hard as them in the future and will have a comfy and well-paid job, you fucking ingrate! >.<
but on the other hand, you, unaware their good-intentions have turned on them and say they're pushing you harder because of their own face. Fuck you're ignorant.

This thread fucking pisses me off!

Agreed! :)

I think that lies in the heart of mentality of many Asian parents (although I know many who came *loaded* and they don't demand much).

my parents dun care much about "face" its just that they both went 2 uni with hectic degrees and jobs and wants me 2 do de same. It's nothing to do with "race" i recon.

Look at John Barton of Looking for Alibrandi, is he asian?

no, he isn't, but all the same, I think some asian parents feel that their kids have to do well at school because in a way it reflects upon them as parents

I disagree. I think our parents want us to have a well, happy and healthy life before any self-gratification for themselves.

errr
yeah

i guess it depends on the parents
my parents can be lenient i guess
but some of my friends can't even go out with their friends... just study study study
and other friends of mine have parents who just go "eh do whatever"
