wow! thanks guys! his pretty suprised! he was expecting low 90's!
Well it could be low 90s.

My friend from a ~200 ranked school last year had better ranks in some subjects and worse in others than him and got 89.55.

His ranks were:
English standard- 1/101
Mathematics- ~4/~24
Physics - 1/18
PDHPE - 1/~16 (he got ~93 so scaling was negligible)
Biology - 4/24

I'd say high 80s at least, but he could be looking at low 90s. Hard to gauge as some of his subject cohorts are so small, and there is a large range of calibre of student coming 1st in a 300s school. Some would not be near 1 in a higer rank school, where some could still be 1 at a higher rank school.

But i think English will be detrimental for his ATAR hence the high 80s-but if all his rank 1 subbies he performs well in, he could scrape the 90s.

Anyone who's provided an estimate does not fully understand how the ATAR works.

You simply cannot provide an estimate because he's ranked first in most of his subjects. We don't know how good he is, for all we know he could be the best the state has ever seen in all his subjects except English.

Yeah, iSplicer is right, it's impossible to give a single closed estimate with such ranks like that. He could be state rank in everything or Band 5 in everything. It's impossible to distinguish, his school rank doesn't help me give him an accurate estimate either.

Hence why you can say 'XX.XX+' as an estimate.

So, I'm going to say: 89+, but probably ~93-95.

So basically "89+" equates to "89.00 - 99.95". It's perfectly valid, but I'd question how useful this estimate really is =P

Yes. But the "~93-95" gives a tighter range.

And it's totes useful if the person only wants ~85.
