at macq 1st sem I had 11 contact hrs was at uni 2 days a week 2nd sem I was 3

USYD and Macq contact hours are EXTREMELY different.

I had 14 first year. My brother in a law degree at mq had only 11.
so if u wanna go by contact hours then macq has hardly any, hence why they're known as "club macq" lol they dont have many ocntact hours at all. it's all home-based.

This is my first preference for when it's my turn to enrol in uni. However I have a q. I'm interested in teaching economics only, and am not interetsed in the other teaching subjects AT ALL. I wouldn't mind business studies or commerce but how come there isn't any? Any other courses which offers economics, business studies and/or commerce?

And if I choose to study French for the arts part, do I HAVE to teach it? Cos I plan on doing it pureply out of interest.

And is it true if you choose to do economics, your economics classes are with the people that choose to do economics?

Sorry about all my questions, I'm just a very confused child! Hope someone can help Thanks!!

Another noob q,

I understand that you study units for your BA that correspond to the subjects (or
subject) that you wish to teach. I'd want to teach Economics/Commerce and History, so does that mean I could major in Political Economy and History for the BA? Or Major in PE and minor in History?

Does anyone here have Economics/Commerce as their major teaching subject? What units do you do in your BA for this?

Re sasa - I think Economics and Commerce are bundled together as one teaching area anyway, but I don't know what the go is with Business Studies. I think it may also be an offshoot of Economics/Commerce, as the Commerce teacher at my HS taught business also, and had Geo as his minor subject. It might be that you can choose to specialise in either two of the three (Eco, BS and Commerce). Just speculating here though. If anyone knows, thanks in advance!

I'm thinking of transfering to BEd/arts but not sure if its worth it...because i probably need to spend an extra year at uni to complete the education bit of the degree since ive already completed one full year of B arts @ usyd.

anyone know who i can talk to to get some solid info? and would anyone know if i need to apply through UAC or not? the usyd website isnt helping at all...

Though one question, the UAI cut-off dropped (again), is that supposed to worry me, or anyone doing it?

The cut-off only dropped 1 or 2 points from what I can tell. There is always the late offer round, for more people to get in.

Cut offs are only indicative to course popularity through supply and demand. The UAI score is not an indication of merit in any shape, way or form.

I am enrolling this year, and I am rather looking forward to it. I will be leaning heavily towards History in my choice of Arts subjects.

I wouldn't use your arts units for randomness....

You need 12 junior units of an arts subject to prequisite for a 200 Level senior year subjects.

You need 12 senior units of an arts subject to prequisite for a curriculum unit - for example

Sorry about that. I think my wording gave you the wrong impression of what I meant. I meant "random" as in a different class I didn't want to teach but was interested in.

Just one more question,
if there's a class I'll like to take, but it's not being held in the first semester and only in the second, does that mean I can only take that class in the 2nd semester?

i suppose so.

apparently we have to do 4 units of "teaching" subjects i.e. English or History in our selection of arts units. That is, 4 in the 8 units we pick this year.

now whether that is 2 and 2 each semester, or if you can do 1 and 3, 3 and 1, is not exactly sure, at least for a future student like myself. maybe some expert analysis can help.

wow, that was quick. mine took about 2 hours. lines weren't too bad, filling out wasn't too bad, sucks for those people who rocked up and didn't know what to fill out for units. around the website works i tell you.


is it just me or did this course have a lot of female enrollees?
