Lolwut.

ATAR is only indicative of the demand for a particular uni course. No one in uni gives a crap of what you got.

Cutoffs change, they are not set in stone. You don't know what the cutoff is going to be, you only know last years.

If your applying for a graduate program or something they will most likely want to see your uni transcript, wouldn't care less about your atar

It could help you get a scholarship. I know UWS gives you quite a bit of monies (like $10, 000 one-off) if you get an ATAR over 90.

Getting a high ATAR will prevent your parents from kicking you out of the house.

I suppose it might help if you're aiming for a very competitive course and your year group has lots of high achievers or something. Best to aim for the best you can get, anyway. Always better to sprint ahead than fall short :p

A high ATAR just means you're good at memorising and applying information under exam conditions.

agreed, the higher the atar, the higher the demand for that particular course.

a high atar course does not mean it's hard.

Could be a condition on early entry that you get a certain ATAR, so if you achieve it then you won't have to wait for main rounds?

na if you have a higher atar than the requirement you can tell people in your course that you have a higher atar than required, they will all be impressed and everyone will start sucking your cock etc

so fucking true. I just wish more people would understand that.
...
The only way you can be good at this is if you have the intelligence of a smart student to figure this out and apply this.
Also, naturally gifted students understand concepts quicker and hence remember it better and are able to shoot it out in exams quicker than less talented students... such as yourself.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effect

extract - The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled people make poor decisions and reach erroneous conclusions, but their incompetence denies them the metacognitive ability to appreciate their mistakes.[1] The unskilled therefore suffer from illusory superiority, rating their ability as above average, much higher than it actually is, while the highly skilled underrate their own abilities, suffering from illusory inferiority. This leads to the situation in which less competent people rate their own ability higher than more competent people.
