I could continue this for a while (e.g. post-puberty, non-penetrative, not feel violated because sex isn't inherently stupid or dangerous), but quite frankly I feel dirty for playing devil's advocate to paedophilia.

I'll leave it with: bestiality certainly isn't as clear cut as being a case of applying moral nihilism, and it's nowhere near as arbitrary as homosexuality vilification. Compared to the rather large societal change it would take to provide some sort of justification and protection for freedom of zoophilia, the potential gains seem very minimal even assuming a completely positive notion of zoophilia. From a utilitarian humanism point of view, it's not even clear if there would be any net gain at all; you'd be increasing an extreme secondary freedom which has ample replacements and thus, for which suppression causes no noticeable harm.

In the UK as recently as 5 years ago they relaxed their zoophilia laws to a maximum of 2 years imprisonment for penetration and no punishment for any other 'sexual' contact. It's also legal in germany, finland, sweden, switzerland, denmark and norway though many of these countries also hold that where the animals are physically abused it is illegal (i.e. mutilated or some such thing).

Oh, it should be fines, not imprisonment, except for repeated offenders (as a form of discouragement).

Yes but see, there's many countries that have made it legal... Where's the moral outrage in Germany? Where's the societal collapse?

And you think Australia would be the same, there'd be no, no moral outrage here?

P.S. Never mentioned societal collapse. Our rate of mental illness has risen immensely in the past 200 years, but there's been no societal collapse. The two aren't causally linked.

My gripe with bestiality is that it is one of the few cases of sexual freedom which I can see as having the potential to lead to 'societal decay', as the conservatives call it. I don't believe I've said bestiality shouldn't be allowed, though, have I? Well done whipping yourself into a frenzy.
slightly different I suppose...

And IDK how Australia would react :p

What replacement is there for a zoophile who is attracted to a particular species of animal? There is so much evidence that sexuality is deeply ingrained. It's like saying its okay to ban homosexual relationships because hetrosexual relationships are an adequate substitute for a gay person.

Harm to the zoophiles is hard to determine, but needless to say they would feel great frustration.

A quatifiable harm is the cost to the public of police investigations, trying them, and possibly remanding them in custody.

On changing rates of mental illness - it's hard to say how it is changing because there is so much flux in the way we define mental illness (and also in the way we identify it - think of provision of services and changing taboos, e.g. regarding openness about depression in males). For example, the acknowledgement of ADHD and childhood depression took place relatively recently in the psychiatric community (and so once codified and defined the rates of net observed illness of course went up). And what year saw the greatest decrease in mental illness? 1973, when the APA voted that homosexuality be abolished from the DSM (later ratified in 1974).

That said, I'm sure you could look at rates for specific illnesses.

I guess the problem is whether or not the animal consents or not ... Cause if the human is *ahem* fucking the animal, and IF the animal doesn't want it or feels pain then it counts as rape. BUT we can't communicate to animals effectively...THUS it brings up a problem there. Of course there is the occasional peanut butter trick...

I get the impression you don't know what castrated means, because that wouldn't stop them "fucking" animals.

Thank you for your reply, however since my comment contained no pro/anti beastiality comments I somewhat perplexed as to how you arrived at the conclusion that I am endorse the practice of beastiality. Considering this, and the tone of your reply, I can only come to the conclusion that you are partially braindead. This regrettably makes your opinion worth less than that of an individual with a fully functional brain.

In regards to your request, i.e. the death of everyone in this thread except you and "the other outraged guy", I am happy to inform you that we will all eventually be dead, and will no longer be able to spread our socialist propaganda.

Any feedback you wish to provide is welcome and I look foward to continued discussion of this subject in the near future.

It doesn't make sense to apply the concept of consent, as used to describe human sexual interactions, to animals.

Why is that a problem? do you eat meat? do you think those animals consented to being killed and having their flesh torn off and consumed?

It sickens me beyond comprehension,but tbh unless they're torturing the animal, or are sadists... I really don't care who fucks what.

It's sick AND illegal,

Crimes Act 1958 - SECT 59
(1) A person must not commit an act of bestiality.

Penalty: Level 6 imprisonment (5 years maximum).

(2) An act of bestiality is any of the following-

(a) buggery committed by a man on an animal of either sex;

(b) buggery committed by an animal on a man or woman;

(c) penetration of the vagina of an animal by the penis of a man;

(d) penetration of the vagina of a woman by the penis of an animal.

(3) The law relating to buggery is as set out in this Act and no prosecution
shall be instituted for an offence of buggery unless it is for an offence
under this section.

Beastiality is Beastiality, its all based on opinion. You either love it or hate it (and I use love and hate loosely). My opinion is I don't like it but i'm not going to stop someone from doing it unless the animal didn't like it, and you can tell if a animal dosn't like something. Just because they can't understand or maybe can't see things that happen in life the way we do, dosn't mean they don't have emotions, they're living creatures regardless of how oblivious they are to our way of society and what we deem as good or bad.

I think animals are about as geuine of a personality you'll get though, they don't lie about who they really are and well I know i'm going off-topic theres some times i've let my animals in the dark, but you've always got them in the end. Anyone who wants to hurt an animal is downright sadistic, through either bestiality negatively or any other act.

Mind you, i'm just another person in the world, I don't protest against this stuff in my spare time, but I know it has good and bad sides, just like everything. (sorry if something dosn't make sense, i rushed this hard)
