I've a question. I'm doing Frost poems as my set text which is all about discovery about human nature through nature itself. Does my related material have to be about this concept too? It's pretty hard finding something that uses nature as a medium of discovery of something as deep as Frost poems.
Sorry just saw this now..
It doesn't have to be able the concept but it sometimes helps to have some discovery concepts/themes which can compared in one paragraph.

Another other related text for discovery could be, The histrionic wayfarer (after Bosch), by Tim Storrier. It's an Artwork. :)

Would Boyhood work as a related text for a task based on Confronting & Provocative discoveries?

My teacher actually strongly recommended Boyhood as a related text. But it all depends on how it fits in with your prescribed. I did the Tempest and chose Birdman, which had excellent thematic connections (metafictionality, theatre, illusion, forgiveness etc) that enabled the two texts to work really well together. I would also suggest choosing related material based on personal preference, because it's always nice to study something you already love. Do you know what your prescribed text is?

Yeah its Life of Pi. My teacher told me not to use two of the same type, so I'll find something that's not a film. Any suggestions? Avoid the Bell Jar please, I'm very emotionally absorbent and I will definitely not cope emotionally reading The Bell Jar

Off the top of my head...

Kafka on the Shore - Haruki Murakami (think this will link well with LoP)
Five Bells - Gail Jones
The Road - Cormac McCarthy
Big World - Tim Winton
The Trial - Franz Kafka
The God of Small Things - Arundhati Roy
The Inheritance of Loss - Kiran Desai
...also look into William H. Gass's short stories

Yes. As would Guernica and 1984, and If This Is a Man Primo Levi

I think Extremely loud and incredibly close would also work

Don't do any prescribed texts is my personal recommendation.

The alchemist
Extremely loud and incredibly close
Lock artist

Are the three texts that I reckon would work well with your prescribed text.

Any suggestions for Bill Bryson's "A Short History of Nearly Everything"?
Do you have a favourite text type?

The Moon Landing 1969

Interseller (Film)

The Time Machine HG Wells

The Invisible Man

Journey to the Centre of the Earth(book)

I'd probably think Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Verne would suit Bill Bryson's work

film or anything short

rubric: lead us to new world values, stimulate new ideas,
Offer new understandings and renewed perceptions of ourselves & others
Vary according to context
transformative for individual
emerge from process of deliberate & careful planning evoked by curiosity but it can also be sudden

Thanks

Any good related texts for motorcycle diaries?
I used Alice in Wonderland (Tim Burton) - self discovery and new places (among others) and The Horses Too Are Gone (not so great, its flippin huge) for one comparison and the 100 Foot Journey (text) - self discovery, new places and The Secret LIfe of Walter Mitty (film) - self discovery, new places etc. All similar themes but fairly easy to talk about and that. Got pretty good marks
