Well, basically, I flunked my year 11 half yearlies. A failure for Ext 1 maths, and 60s for other subjects. I put this down to poor study habits which I've improved considerably since. I'm aiming for a 96+ ATAR.

My self-confidence is down a bit (not faith in my own intelligence, just my motivation and focus), so please share your stories if you have any.

yesss :) i failed 2 yearlies in year 11 :) i got over 90 :) lol.
Just wondering- what were your subjects?

I'm doing ext1 maths and 3 sciences so I think it will be more difficult for me to redeem myself, but thanks for that! :)

Year 11 Yearlies I failed Extension 1 maths (about 40%), just passed chem (51%) and maths (60%)
In the HSC I ended up with 40 in Extension 1 maths, 87 in chem and 88 in 2u maths.

Very easy to better yourself in the HSC with a good study plan.

In year 11, ranks for 3 of my subjects were:
193/210
83/90
120/144

By the end of year 12 my final ranks were
8/210
2/90
20/144

And yes i got 90+

Year 11 is no indication of how you will go in year 12, because lets face it, no one does anywork in year 11.

Well, I haven't finished the HSC but I failed a number of maths exams, did poorly in physics and just okay in my other subjects in year 11 & I think 99+ is realistic for me.

EDIT: from ~40th/73 in prelim physics to 3/68 in HSC

Maths is one of the few subjects where prelim course actually completely matters. Despite being ranked 18/28 for the preliminary MX1 course, I'm 4/25 in the hsc course.

I was 17/23 for prelim Chemistry, and probably around 5/17 for the first semester of hsc course.

I ended the year for biology in the 20s/7X and I should probably be scraping a top 10 after first semester reports come out for the hsc course.

And I plan on raising my ranks for Chem and MX1 to top 3, and Bio to top 5... hopefully... hopefully I can do it. =[
