I agree with you Matt. I graduated with a degree from CSU and I have not had any trouble finding a job. I freelance write and am earning a comfortable amount. My last buyer (editor for the Western Advocate) said that a Go8 University graduate would not be able to compete with my writing.

I have recently posted my most recent article to be appreciated by the online community. I haven't yet got a buyer for this article but the content is promising. http://community.boredofstudies.org/214/news-current-affairs-politics/163193/hay-worlds-end.html

mate i dont think you're qualified to comment. With your 3 posts on this forum you've plugged your little essay/thesis twice. Can't you get it published somewhere? (i.e. a journal?)

I think cosmic doris summed it up well...

lol ok we get it, you go to uni in the country and you feel inadequate so you're trying to convince us all through the subtext of your posts that we should all come to bathurst with you because the other unis in civilisation just dont match up and are so elitist and wanky and shithouse, to justify your own choice of tertiary institution to yourself.
am i getting close?

PS - you spelt "agricutural" wrong on your thesis. Nice effort. Being a "graduate" you would have proof read your article right?

Good luck with your new job. If you get a job and you're happy then good on you. At the end of the day, thats all that matters.

Edit: this topic reminds me of a mate who is cleaning shit out of cages fulltime for $20k a year, its his dream job to be around animals so im happy for him. Its all in the eyes of the beholder

HAY - AT WORLDS END

The drought is hurting Australian industries, specifically the agricultural industries that heavily rely on the staple hay. At Bathurst I appreciate being far from the rural areas and my proximity to the busy town and the excitement of Abercrombie House. But others do not have it this well.

Hay prices- fluctuating with the pressure of the drought. Is there relief for farmers?

The current price of hay depends on the grades and a guide is as follows:

SUPREME $103.88 to $207.33
PREMIUM $86.56 to $172.78
GOOD $77.56 to $154.81
AVERAGE $36.01 to $71.88

SUPREME : Very early maturity, pre-bloom, soft fine stemmed, extra leafy. Factors indicative of very high nutritive content. Hay is excellent colour and completely free of damage and foreign matter.

PREMIUM : Early maturity, i.e., pre-bloom in legumes and pre head in grass hays, extra leafy and fine stemmed factors indicative of a high nutritive content. Hay is green and free of damage and foreign matter.

GOOD : Late maturity, i.e., mid to late-bloom in legumes, head-in grass hays, moderate or below leaf content, and generally course stemmed. Hay may show light damage and minimal foreign matter.

AVERAGE : Hay in very late maturity, such as mature seed pods in legumes or mature head in grass hays, coarse stemmed. This category could include hay discounted due to excessive damage and heavy weed content or mould.

But how does this compare to the US Market?

In the upper Midwest the prices reacted oddly. Compared to the previous week, small square bale prices were down 23%. Large square bale prices were up 9%. Large round bale prices were steady. Sales activity was light to moderate.

In Nebraska, hay prices were steady. Demand and trade activity was fairly light due to the holidays. For Iowa, hay prices were mixed to $1.25 lower. Demand was light to moderate. Trading was slow to moderate. In South Dakota, hay prices were mixed to $7.00 lower. Most contacts report brisk business. The area is experiencing normal winter weather. In Missouri, hay prices were steady. The supply was light to moderate. Hay movement was light to moderate. As the farmers get further along in the feeding year, many were finding more offerings available in the hay market. Trucking remains the largest obstacle in the equation. Except for the light supply of top quality alfalfa, hay prices are seeing some pressure, most of which is falling on the round bale market. In Southwest Minnesota, hay prices were mixed to $5.00 lower. Sales activity was moderate.

The demand for Illinois hay was good, with moderate to active sales. Hay prices were steady. Hay movement slowed during the holiday period, but market activity was moderate to active in December. The winter weather has increased demand and usage of hay and straw in the northern part of the

In Wisconsin, the sales activity at the second quality-tested hay auction of the season at Lomira was moderate. The quality of hay offered was good. Prices averaged 11% higher than the December 7 hay auction.

Straw prices in the Midwest averaged $2.36 per small square bale (range of $2.00 to $3.50); $26.52 per large square bale (range of $20.90 to $38.00); and $30.75 per large round bale (range of $27.00 to $36.00). Compared to the previous week, straw prices for small square bales were down 5%. Large square bale prices were up 32%. Large round bale prices were down 7%.

A nasty thing here in that it is cheaper to ship the hay overseas than it is to transport it from WA to the eastern seaboard.

So theres 2 possibilities here
a) you copied it from this person - i.e plagarism
b) you recycled old work and then claimed it as new stuff.
Please send valid explanations this way, im all ears mate.

hahaha nice one matt, you got caught.
I'll give you some tips so you dont fuck up so bad next time.

a) If you go on a rant - keep it factual, not as "opinionated" as you had it
b) Back up your arguments
c) Actually have an argument
d) As soon as you mentioned csu, you have a conflict of interest. therefore this skews your argument. People will recognise this.
e) If you get outnumbered, just cut your losses and run. Unless you've really made a knob of yourself, the thread will dissapear or get locked out after a bit. So it doesnt turn into this ---> http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/showthread.php?t=98489

Hey guys,

I've just finished my first year at csu and I'm not going to say its the best university out there, I feel its a good univeristy and I'm glad I there. That being said if I chose to go to ANU where I also got in or Sydney I would most likely feel the same way.

I'm posting this as I'm sick of the whole debate. With my lack of experience and information into this area I've always thought that CSU has a disadvantaged reputation compared to USyd for example. I figured it was due to the fact that it has lower uai which most would convey as meaning its a shit uni, but isn't it more like csu has lower uai's than Usyd because of the demand of entry?

And then doesnt Usyd have a higher demand being more people live in urban areas, more people from regional areas would prefer to move to the city than to another regional town, more employment opportunities?????

Please correct me if I'm wrong but if employers had any sense they would not pick and chose people over which university they went to but actual marks then there would be no stupid idea that one univeristy is better than the other. Because realisticaly dont they all get you in the same place in the end????

Also not all people that go to CSU feel the need to blast USyd people or are that big of wankers.

This thread is going to be about why people went to a certain university (other than the UAI influence) so of course it will be controversial. The reason why Matt got ripped apart is because he wrote a poor argument attacking other universities because of their prestege. Then he posted as a different user and tried to be a graduate. Your post above is alot more mature than what he did, and therefore isnt as controversial. Its like the good old saying "if you bite me, i'll bite back". Nobody here really attacked CSU, just the fact matt dervied his argument that it was 'superior, and thats all that matters'.

I believe that the prestige of a university can help if you're going into a industry with a low number of available jobs - law, it, etc. At the end of the day everyone will get a job, it might not be the one you wanted (or pay as well). But as i mentioned before its all the the eyes of the beholder. Like you mentioned above about "best uni out there" - i'm at ANU and i feel anu is "the best uni out there", but i havent actually studied at any of the others so my opinion is skewed.

Correct - uai cutoff is based on demand of a course

Well yes Usyd is in the city (so attracts a higher population), but it has the prestige associated (which attracts alot of people). It seems to be a "fashionable" thing to do atm, it gives parents bragging right against the others. but thats life, Some universities will be more prestege than others. I go to ANU, its ranked highly, its interstate and is in canberra (which many people frown upon). At the end of the day, i've had a great time (and ive learnt quite a bit). So i dont particularly care about the other universities.

yes and no. I've *heard* this quote before (and ive had arguments with people for posting it) "A 1st in law a UWS is equivelent to a pass at USYD".
Some employers will look at the university, some will have higher expectations - thats life. Personally i dont think much of UWS, or the queensland one that does surfing studies lol. And thats my opinion - is that fair? they're accredited courses, so i should give them equal rights with the other uni's?

Unless you're a social misfit, with a degree, you'll probably get a job.

I'm posting this as I'm sick of the whole debate.
Its always going to happen. People *need* to put someone down to make themselves feel better/superior. In this case Matt had his little rant and got shot down. Half the people arguing dont even go to Usyd, just his post was immature.

If i was you, id just let people have their little power trip, let them casually fail and watch them burn. It reminds me of hsc when people tried to cheat/apply for special consideration/apply for disability help etc. Most of them dropped out of uni because they couldn't hack it (and they couldn't suck up to teachers/schools etc for extra marks)

Just Matt did, don't worry too much. At least you're post was well written and fairly unbiased (in comparison to matts)

Peace.

I'm not sure who I hate more, i) people who feel smug about going to USyd / UMelb, or ii) people who feel smug about NOT going to USyd / UMelb.

Also, to Evilo: o/
