hmmm, probably Ronan Bennett, wrote The Catastrophist, a self-refecting piece of writing about his fictional avatar being a writer and a journalist in the belgian congo during revolution, and how he struggles to find himself and still hold on to his love, Ines, who herself a reporter, is caught up in the revolution. bit like my life. lol, excellent reading however.

Good to see so many Matthew Reilly fans! The only one I'm yet to read is Hover Car Racer, and I've got a copy of Hell Island on hold, as it's being re-released.

Matthew Reilly is a terrible author.

Me: Dickens or Austen.

George Orwell, Animal Farm rocks!!

But my fav author would have to be none other than Douglas Adams.
The man knows how to write hilarious mysteries ^^

Tim Winton has a great concise way of writing that really appeals when I want to read a short book but get a lot out of it.

I think he is the most effective writer in terms of words - per story conveyed.

So for the moment I say him. (Ironically in a long winded way).

Jeffrey Eugenides, Douglas Coupland, Junot Diaz.

They're pretty much my top three at the moment.

I really dislike a lot of the popular Australian fiction. Tim Winton, Peter Carey and Bryce Courtenay are all rather vomit-inducing IMO.
