Haven't read any Orson Scott Card, but I keep hearing good things about it.
For me I have to say that it comes down to a tie for favourite sci-fi book. Dune by Frank Herbert and Neuromancer by William Gibson.
If I had more money, I would be buying sci-fi books like hotcakes.

I've read Dune. Got me into Sci-Fi. Then I read Neuromancer and Ender's Game. Enough Sci-Fi for this year methinks. Next year = Asimov.

Brave new world was good, but theres plenty of sci-fi out there thats much better, its only good cause its a classic imo.
Enders Game was my favourite for a long time, but its hard to judge what makes a good book, wether there is social commentary, some sort of big philosophical message, how well they construct their universes, the little touches of tech like how they handle FTL travel[if they have it at all, some books go the route of cryogenic sleep and settle with lightspeed]. Ender's game was great, but it just doesnt encompass all that much.

The Forever War: Joe Haldeman. Excellent book, but goodluck finding it, it was written 30 years ago and most librarys dont carry it. I found my copy in perfect condition in a secondhand bookstore for $1. I would have paid upwards of $40 to get it.

I'd have to say the Enders Game series is the standout for me. It's my second favourite series ever. But within it I actually like Speaker For The Dead the best (thats the second out of four for people who don't know it).
Everyone should read it. The whole series. It's brilliant.
I also liked 1984. That was a good good book.

If you have a sense of humour you can't go past Hitch-hikers guide to the galaxy and its seques by Douglas Adams...can't believe no one's mentioned it
Isaac Asimov's Foundation series has been mentioned, all his robot novels and shorts are great as well, he actually invented the term "robotics". His "Nightfall" is my favourite sci-fi short story.
Starship Troopers (and other Heinlein) I recommend, even if you're not really into sci-fi it's worth a read and is open to wide interpretation.
